Porsche, the German car manufacturer, has recently announced the discontinuation of the Macan, its small sports SUV model, in the European market starting from Q1/2024.
Porsche plans to extend the life cycle of the Macan model with internal combustion engines for a few more years, alongside the upcoming Macan EV. However, the company is forced to cease production of the ICE version in 2024 due to new, stricter cybersecurity regulations implemented by the European Union (EU).
A Porsche spokesperson explained that the required upgrades for the vehicle to comply with the new regulations would be complex and costly.
The objective of the new cybersecurity regulations imposed by the European Union is to safeguard the electronic infrastructure of vehicles against potential hacker attacks. Unfortunately, the new generation Macan was developed prior to the announcement of these cybersecurity regulations.
The European markets that will cease selling the Porsche Macan starting from the beginning of 2024 include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
The discontinuation of the Macan comes as a “significant blow” to Porsche as it is currently the top-selling model of the company as of September 2023. Specifically, during the first 9 months of 2023, the Macan achieved a total global sales volume of 68,354 units, surpassing the Cayenne with only 64,457 units.
Although the Macan will no longer be available in Europe, Porsche will continue to sell the Macan with internal combustion engines in other markets worldwide, at least until 2026 or until the release of the new generation, whichever comes first, or emission regulations tighten in various countries.
Porsche plans to debut their first all-electric Macan in 2024. Nonetheless, the official launch date has yet to be determined due to software-related issues within the Volkswagen Group.
Not only the Macan but also other models distributed by the Volkswagen Group in Europe are affected by these cybersecurity regulations, such as the VW e-Up, Audi TT, and Audi R8. Furthermore, the VW Transporter T6.1 van will also have to be replaced and utilize components from the Ford Transit model.
In Vietnam, the Porsche Macan is distributed by the official importer with 4 variants, with prices ranging from 3.35 billion to 5.34 billion VND.

No longer interested in Mercedes-Maybach, “long-legged” Lily Chen buys Porsche Macan for over 3.3 billion VND.
“Lily Chen, a renowned bolero artist, was once a die-hard fan of Mercedes-Benz, owning a total of four cars from the brand. Her most expensive purchase was the Mercedes-Maybach S450 4Matic, priced at over 8 billion Vietnamese Dong. However, for her latest car upgrade, she made the unexpected decision to switch to the 2023 Porsche Macan.”
