Exquisite license plates have always been highly sought after. Recently, numerous Vietnamese millionaires have surprised the public by spending billions, even tens of billions of Vietnamese dong, in order to obtain lucky number plates, such as consecutive numbers or number sequences like “567.89”. An outstanding example is the Lamborghini Huracan with the license plate from Ho Chi Minh City ending in the number 9, where the license plate alone fetched a price of 2.74 billion Vietnamese dong.
On January 1st, a Hanoi tycoon’s Rolls-Royce Cullinan emerged on the streets of the capital, causing a stir with its consecutive number plate “55555”. At present, this is the most expensive Cullinan in Vietnam, including the cost of the license plate.
It is estimated that the Hanoi tycoon had to spend no less than 5.5 billion Vietnamese dong to complete the registration process for the Rolls-Royce Cullinan with the consecutive number plate “55555”. The post-tax price of the car is rumored to be around 4 billion Vietnamese dong. With that amount, the value of the car is even comparable to the starting price of a brand new Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII EWB imported from the official dealer.
Specifically, the license plate “30K-55555” of the car was auctioned off for 14.495 billion Vietnamese dong on November 4th, 2023. This license plate had previously been auctioned off for 14.12 billion Vietnamese dong on September 15th, but the buyer failed to fulfill their financial obligations, resulting in the license plate being returned to the auction company.
The number sequence “55555” is favored by Vietnamese people as it symbolizes blessings and prosperity. It represents the five elements in Vietnamese belief: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Additionally, the number 5 stands at the center and is considered the balancing number, the pillar.
Many vehicles with consecutive number plates “55555” were sold at significantly higher prices. For instance, the Toyota Camry 2022 with the license plate “34A-55555” was valued at 3.5 billion Vietnamese dong, whereas the Hyundai SantaFe 2020 with the license plate “30G-55555” was priced at around 3 billion Vietnamese dong…
