Starting from March 2023, Ford has introduced the Explorer electric SUV. This is the first model from the American car manufacturer to adopt the MEB architecture of the Volkswagen Group, as part of the collaboration between Ford and VW.
Initially planned for the European market only, the Ford Explorer EV surprised everyone when it was spotted in Malaysia in early 2024. This unexpected sighting raised doubts about the possibility of the Ford Explorer EV making its way into the Southeast Asian market.
It turns out that the Ford Explorer EV seen in Malaysia is currently on a global tour called “Charge Around the Globe,” as evidenced by the text on its body.
The driver of the Ford Explorer EV is Alexis Alford, a Guinness World Record holder for being the youngest person to travel through every country in the world at the age of 21.
Alexis Alford embarked on her world tour with the Explorer EV starting from Nice, France, in September 2023. This extraordinary woman aims to travel across 6 continents and more than 30 countries with her Explorer EV. If she successfully achieves this feat, she will become the first person to circumnavigate the globe in an electric car.
On January 5, 2024, Alexis Alford updated her social media with the news that she has already covered 14,890 km and has been on the road for 75 days.
The Ford Explorer EV driven by this record-breaking woman is a production-ready version. The convoy includes several other production-ready cars that allow for component replacements in case of any unfortunate incidents.
Currently, Ford has not officially released the technical specifications of the Explorer EV. However, according to various speculations, the Ford Explorer EV will be available in three options: a single motor version with 168 horsepower and a range of 351 km, a single motor version with 228 horsepower and a range of 539 km, and a dual motor version with 335 horsepower and a range of 491 km.
According to the plan, Ford is scheduled to begin mass production of the electric Explorer EV in June 2024. The first customer deliveries are expected to take place around August.
