The Porsche 911 is a legendary sports car model that has been in existence for six decades. It will celebrate its 60th birthday in 2024, and there will be various commemorative activities taking place all over the world.
In Vietnam, Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu is known for his collection of over 20 Porsche 911s. Another avid enthusiast is businessman N.H.A. from Hai Phong city, who currently resides in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City and owns two or more Porsche 911s.
Last year, this player gained attention as the first person in Vietnam to receive the limited edition Porsche 911 Dakar. The production run was limited to 2,500 units worldwide, with only 4 units distributed in Vietnam. Many people were curious to know which Porsche 911 models this businessman previously owned to receive such special treatment.
On a beautiful day, this businessman unveiled his two Porsche 911 sports cars. Alongside the famous Porsche 911 Dakar, which completed a nearly 35,000 km journey from Saigon to the Gobi Desert in just 3 months, he owns the first Porsche 911 Carrera GTS to ever arrive in Vietnam, 7 years ago.
Interestingly, the wheels of both Porsche 911s have been customized. The Porsche 911 Dakar has its wheels repainted in gold and red, matching its original “zin” color, while the older generation Porsche 911 Carrera GTS owned by the Hai Phong car enthusiast now boasts shiny gold wheels, previously black. The pair of Porsche 911s cost the owner more than 28 billion VND.
But the story doesn’t end there. The Hai Phong businessman was also the owner of the first Porsche 911 Turbo S 991 to arrive in Vietnam. He had the opportunity to drive this car from Saigon to Thailand before selling it to its current owner, Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu.
The Porsche 911 Turbo S alongside the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, generating a maximum power of 430 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 550 Nm. It features a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 310 km/h. In addition to the automatic transmission, the 911 Carrera GTS also comes with a manual transmission option.
The Porsche 911 Dakar, on the other hand, is only available in the GT Silver Metallic color. Its unique customization features include a Rally Sport rollover protection frame, a roof rack with accessories, and personalized door sills with the message “Limitless Drive.”
Furthermore, the owner’s signature can be found on the door sills, showcasing his exclusive driving style. The limited edition Porsche 911 Dakar 2023, parked alongside two other cars delivered to adventurous and savvy customers in Vietnam, has the order number “1904,” coinciding with Mr. Hoang Anh’s birth date. Choosing a birth date for a Porsche 911 in Vietnam is not uncommon. Prior to this, Cuong “Dola” requested his own Porsche 911 Sport Classic 2023, one of only 1,250 units worldwide, with the sequence number “1202” and his birth date, 82, on the door.
The first Porsche 911 Dakar 2023 to arrive in Vietnam is powered by a 6-cylinder horizontally opposed twin-turbocharged petrol engine, delivering a maximum power of 473 horsepower and a peak torque of 570 Nm with a displacement of 3.0 liters. It is paired with an 8-speed PDK automatic transmission, enabling the sports car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and achieve a top speed limited to 240 km/h.
An interesting feature of the off-road Porsche 911 Dakar 2023 is its ability to raise the ground clearance up to 80 mm, similar to SUVs. However, at speeds exceeding 170 km/h, the vehicle’s height automatically lowers, transforming it back into a sports car. Additionally, the car is equipped with a full-time four-wheel drive system and rear-wheel steering.
