With aspirations to become a leading global car manufacturer, not only in China but worldwide, the Geely Group has created several sub-brands and joint ventures that target various market segments, ranging from economy to premium and even supercars. Among these brands is Galaxy, a newcomer launched just last year, with the goal of capturing the mid-range and premium electric car market.
Geely Galaxy E8 introduced with gaming screen, priced lower than Hyundai Elantra in Vietnam
Galaxy has released several product lines, including the L6, L7, and most recently, the E8, a fully electric sedan with a striking design and a technologically advanced interior. The E8 was officially unveiled last night, January 5, 2024, in the Chinese market.
The Geely Galaxy E8 is available in 5 different models, with prices ranging from 175,800 yuan to 228,800 yuan, which is approximately 57.3 million VND to 74.6 million VND. These competitive prices may require Geely to ramp up production for the Galaxy E8.
The Chinese automaker states that the Geely Galaxy E8 is built using the large-scale SEA architecture and is positioned as a mid-size to large-size fully electric sedan. It comes in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions, supports 800V fast charging, and offers an impressive operating range of 665 km, making it a top contender in its class.
In addition, the Geely Galaxy E8 features a spacious 45-inch high-resolution 8K screen, an upgraded version of the integrated Galaxy N OS automotive system, and is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. Furthermore, the new car will come with the Galaxy Intelligence Driving 2.0 system, with the Urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) function set to be activated later this year. Users will also have the opportunity to enjoy gaming on this massive screen.
The design of the Geely Galaxy E8 follows the aesthetic of the Galaxy Light concept car. It showcases slim headlights, low waistlines, long bonnet lines, an elegant roofline, retractable door handles, and aerodynamic wheel arches. These design elements contribute to a drag coefficient of 0.199 Cd, second only to the recently launched Xiaomi SU7.
The Geely Galaxy E8 boasts a turning radius of 5.62 meters, an impressive feat for a sedan measuring 5010/1920/1465 mm and a wheelbase of 2925 mm. Geely assures that the E8 meets the safety requirements set by the IATF standard, with the A-pillar boasting a stiffness of 1500 MPa. Additionally, the car has undergone testing conducted by CATARC experts and meets the safety requirements of NESTA (NEV Electrical Safety Verification).
Inside the Geely Galaxy E8, passengers are treated to an 8K OLED 45-inch screen. Notably, this screen measures just 10 mm in thickness. During the launch event, Geely compared the Galaxy E8 to the BYD Han, implying that their screen offers superior quality.
This screen can be connected to Meizu smartphones through the Flyme Connect system. Geely acquired Meizu in 2022. Flyme Connect is essentially Geely’s answer to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The multimedia system of the Galaxy E8 is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 chip. The Geely Galaxy E8 supports NOA 2.0 (Navigation on Autopilot) and includes features such as adaptive cruise control and autonomous parking. The system is guided by 11 satellites launched by Geely.
The E8 features a two-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom. The gear selector is located behind the steering wheel. The Galaxy E8’s center tunnel houses a hidden charging pad and a hidden compartment. Other notable features of the E8 include an AR-HUD (Augmented Reality Head-Up Display) and a 12-speaker Infinity sound system. The Geely Galaxy E8 offers a spacious trunk capacity of 420 liters, with an additional 53 liters of cargo space in the rear trunk.
In terms of power, the rear-wheel drive model utilizes a 400V architecture, with a maximum motor power of 200kW and a maximum torque of 343 Nm. The dual-motor four-wheel drive model, on the other hand, utilizes an 800V architecture, with a power of 360 kW. This model is equipped with a high-efficiency SiC electric drive system, with the front motor boasting a maximum power of 165kW, the rear motor boasting a maximum power of 310kW, and both motors having a maximum torque of 710 Nm.
For the battery, the Geely Galaxy E8 offers options with 62kWh and 76kWh battery packs, providing estimated ranges of 550 km, 665 km, and 620 km, respectively. As for performance, the E8 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.49 seconds and has a top speed of 82 km/h.
