Hanoi Tycoon’s Exclusive Porsche 911 Pair Spotted in Saigon, Regrettably Sold their First 911 Turbo S in Vietnam

Aside from the renowned Porsche 911 Dakar limited edition sports car, which has completed an incredible journey of almost 35,000 km from Saigon to the Gobi Desert, the owner also owns the first-ever imported Porsche 911 Carrera GTS in the country, a feat achieved 7 years ago.

The Porsche 911 is an iconic sports car model that has been around for six decades, making it one of the most legendary cars in the world. In 2024, it will celebrate its 60th anniversary, and there will be various commemorative activities taking place worldwide.

In Vietnam, there are a few enthusiasts who own multiple Porsche 911 cars. One notable collector is Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu, who has a collection of over 20 Porsche 911 cars. Another enthusiast is a businessman named N.H.A. from Hai Phong city, who currently resides in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City and owns 2 or more Porsche 911 cars.

Last year, this enthusiast caught the attention of many as the first person in Vietnam to receive the limited-edition Porsche 911 Dakar sports car. Only 4 of these cars were distributed in Vietnam out of a total production run of 2,500 worldwide. Many people were curious to know if this businessman owned any other Porsche 911 models or if he was simply lucky.

The answer came on a beautiful day when the businessman decided to take his 2 sports cars, the Porsche 911 Dakar and the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, out for a sunbath. The Porsche 911 Dakar gained fame for its nearly 35,000 km adventure from Saigon to the Gobi Desert in just 3 months. On the other hand, the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS was the first of its kind to arrive in the country 7 years ago.

What’s interesting is that the Porsche 911 Dakar has been repainted with a gold color and red rims, while the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS owned by the Hai Phong enthusiast now sports bright yellow rims to match its “original” color. The owner spent over 28 billion VND on these two Porsche 911 cars alone.

But the story doesn’t end there. This Hai Phong businessman is also the proud owner of the first Porsche 911 Turbo S 991 to arrive in the country. He had the privilege of driving the car from Saigon to Thailand before reselling it to Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu.

The Porsche 911 Turbo S once shared a garage with the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is equipped with a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder Boxer engine with twin-turbocharging. It produces a maximum power of 430 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 550 Nm. The car comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 310 km/h. In addition to the automatic transmission, the 911 Carrera GTS is also available with a manual transmission.

As for the Porsche 911 Dakar, the owner, Hoang Anh, mentioned that apart from the GT Silver Metallic color, no other color option suits this car better. The 911 Dakar features a distinctive white and Enzian Blue color combination, but the owner personally prefers a different color scheme. Hoang Anh decided to customize the car with additional accessories such as a Rally Sport roll cage, a unique roof rack, and special door sills with the message “Limitless Drive.”

In addition, the owner’s signature can be seen on the door sill, showcasing his unique and distinctive driving style. This limited-edition Porsche 911 Dakar 2023 is parked alongside 2 other cars that have arrived in Vietnam and are waiting to be delivered to daring and wealthy customers. The car bears the sequence number “1904,” which coincides with the owner’s birth date. It has become somewhat of a trend in Vietnam for Porsche 911 owners to choose their birth dates as part of the car’s unique identification. For instance, Cuong “Dola” ordered his Porsche 911 Sport Classic 2023, one out of 1,250 cars worldwide, with the sequence number “1202” and added “82” by the door to represent his birthdate.

The heart of the first Porsche 911 Dakar 2023 to arrive in Vietnam is a 6-cylinder horizontally opposed gasoline engine with twin-turbos, a displacement of 3.0 liters, producing a maximum power of 473 horsepower and a maximum torque of 570 Nm. This engine is paired with an 8-speed PDK automatic transmission, allowing the sports car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, with a top speed limited to 240 km/h.

An interesting feature of the off-road sports car Porsche 911 Dakar 2023 is its raised ground clearance, which can reach up to 80 mm, making it comparable to SUVs. However, once the speed exceeds 170 km/h, the car automatically lowers itself, transforming into a sleek sports car. Additionally, the car features all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering.
