The owner of a Honda Civic complained that certain parts of the car’s exterior have “melted,” and the paint is peeling off even though the car is parked in one place.

WSB-TV covered the story of a family in DeKalb County, Illinois, who claimed that their car is strangely “melting.”

According to Charles Goldberg, his daughter Elena has been using the Honda Civic 2022 to commute between university and home. When not in use, the car is parked in front of their house. Recently, however, Goldberg noticed some unusual signs on the Honda Civic.

Specifically, certain parts of the car, such as the rearview mirror and front bumper, have started to bend, while the paint has started to peel off.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Charles Goldberg in an interview with WSB-TV. “The car is deformed and looks as if it’s melting.”

Upon discovering the issue, both father and daughter took the Civic to a local Honda dealer. They consulted with a service advisor, who explained that this damage is a result of sunlight passing through the windows of their house and focusing on the car – similar to a magnifying glass effect.

WSB-TV conducted an investigation into this matter and found that the Goldberg family is not the only one facing this situation. Many other Honda owners have also lodged similar complaints. An article titled “Melting Honda Car” provides further evidence of the issue.

In a 2019 article published on Honda’s website, the company stated that this type of damage is not covered by the warranty because it is related to external factors rather than being a product issue.

“It has been long established that converging sunlight can heat surfaces and cause damage, depending on the intensity and duration of exposure. This type of damage is not limited to Honda cars or Honda specifically. To summarize, in rare and specific cases, reflected sunlight can harm vehicles, and Honda’s warranty does not cover this type of damage,” said Chris Naughton from Honda & Acura Public Relations.

However, the Goldbergs were not satisfied with the dealer’s explanation, and they decided to file an official complaint with Honda’s office.
