The license plate number 30K-999.99 of Hanoi was sold at auction for over 75 billion VND in just 30 minutes. This is the highest-priced license plate ever auctioned.
On January 13, the Vietnam Auction Company held an online auction for 7,000 car license plates. One license plate in particular, 30K-999.99, attracted a lot of attention from bidders. The auction lasted for 30 minutes, beginning at 10:15 am and concluding at 10:45 am. In the first minute, a participant placed a bid of over 25 billion VND.
After approximately 4 minutes, the price increased to over 50 billion VND, and at the end of the auction, the final price for this special license plate reached over 75 billion VND.
This is the highest amount ever bid for a car license plate since the auctions began on September 15, 2023.

With such a high price, many people have expressed concerns about whether the winning bidder will be able to fulfill their financial obligation. Despite the attractiveness of the license plate 30K-999.99, the bidding price is exceptionally high.
Previously, the highest bid for a license plate according to the organization conducting the auction was for the license plate TP.HCM 51K-888.88, which sold for over 32 billion VND.
However, after several cancellations and re-auctions, in early November 2023, the license plate with five consecutive 8 digits was finally sold for a bid of over 15.2 billion VND.
According to the regulations, the winning bidder of a car license plate must pay the full auction amount within 15 days of the announcement of the auction result. The deposit amount (40 million VND) will be deducted from the winning bid when the customer fulfills their financial obligation.
Within 12 months, the winning bidder must register the license plate for their car. If the deadline expires, the special license plate will be transferred to the vehicle registration and management system, and the winning bidder will not be refunded the auction amount they have already paid.
