The Mazda CX-70 can be seen as a smaller version of the flagship CX-90 SUV. This model will be available with multiple hybrid engine options, including both HEV and PHEV.

Japanese automaker Mazda has confirmed the launch of the CX-70 on January 30th. The announcement was made on the company’s website in Canada, which will be the first market to sell this SUV model.

The Mazda CX-70 was originally scheduled to debut in 2023, but it was later delayed to 2024. The carmaker hasn’t released much information about this new SUV model, but it is known that the CX-70 is a two-row variant of the CX-90. Therefore, it can be expected that the Mazda CX-70 will inherit many modern technologies and premium features from its “sibling”.

According to information from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the Mazda CX-70 will have engine options similar to the CX-90, as well as all-wheel drive on all versions.

Currently, the CX-90 is available with 3 different hybrid engine options, including both HEV and PHEV. The HEV version is equipped with a turbocharged inline-6 gas engine with a displacement of 3.3L, combined with an electric motor. In the base version, this engine delivers an output power of 280 horsepower and a torque of 450 Nm. In the higher-end variants, the car produces a power of 340 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque.

The CX-70 will also offer a plug-in hybrid engine version. On the CX-90, this engine produces a power of 323 horsepower and a torque of 500 Nm.
