The new MB.OS operating system by Mercedes-Benz is being hailed as the most “human-like interface” ever seen on their vehicles.

In a recent development, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled their new operating system called MB.OS at the CES 2024 exhibition. According to the company, the new MB.OS software is faster and more efficient compared to their previous systems, including the MBUX entertainment information system.

One of the key highlights of this operating system is the introduction of the new MBUX virtual assistant, which promises to deliver a highly natural and human-like interface. Powered by AI and proactive automation technology, this virtual assistant is set to revolutionize the user experience of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the MBUX virtual assistant has the ability to provide helpful suggestions based on learned behavior and contextual information. For example, it can deliver the latest news in the morning or activate the driver’s preferred massage mode at the end of a long day.

This virtual assistant is designed to have four distinct personality traits: Natural, Predictive, Personal, and Empathetic. The aim is to create an experience where users feel like they are interacting with a friendly companion.

With this new system, the need to verbally activate the virtual assistant with the phrase “Hey Mercedes” is eliminated. The system can proactively ask smart questions to gather more details and provide relevant answers.

Additionally, the MBUX virtual assistant can respond to prompts in natural language, such as “I’m hungry”. Instead of simply suggesting nearby restaurants like “Hey Mercedes”, the virtual assistant will summarize the menu options and provide ratings to assist the driver in making a decision.

Furthermore, the virtual assistant adjusts its functions based on the driver’s mood, represented by an image of a star on the center entertainment screen. Whether the driver is calm or excited, the system adapts accordingly.

The new MB.OS operating system also introduces an upgraded Surround MBUX navigation system. With advanced 3D graphics, it provides a detailed map of the world that includes various types of traffic, such as cars, trucks, bicycles, and pedestrians. Additionally, the system offers route guidance on the screen for a seamless navigation experience.

Other features of the MB.OS system include an upgraded video streaming service in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment’s RIDEVU service, as well as a range of arcade-style video games offered through a partnership with Antstream.

The production version of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class concept model will be the first to be equipped with the new MB.OS operating system. Built on the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, the next-generation CLA will be optimized for electric vehicles while still offering ICE powertrain options.
