On January 6, 2024, Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast announced a leadership transition as the company enters a new phase of development. Pham Nhat Vuong, founder and Chairman of Vingroup, VinFast’s parent company, will step down as Chairman of the VinFast Board of Directors and assume the role of CEO and Managing Director of VinFast, replacing Le Thi Thu Thuy. Le Thi Thu Thuy, who previously held the position of CEO, will become Chairman of the Board of Directors. VinFast also announced the appointment of Nguyen Thi Lan Anh as the new Chief Financial Officer, taking over from David Mansfield.
Having experienced significant growth and achieved notable business milestones in recent years, including successful entry into the North American market and listing on the US stock exchange, the Board of Directors deemed it appropriate to restructure the leadership positions in preparation for the next phase of growth.
“I am proud of VinFast’s achievements. We have developed an extensive range of electric vehicles in a remarkably short time and successfully entered the global automotive market,” stated Le Thi Thu Thuy. “With a robust manufacturing foundation, an expanding distribution network, and the support of a talented workforce, VinFast is poised to accelerate its global expansion. I firmly believe that under the leadership and business acumen of Pham Nhat Vuong, VinFast will continue to thrive. In my new role as Chairman of the Board of Directors, I look forward to collaborating with Pham Nhat Vuong and the leadership team to steer and drive VinFast’s continued growth.”
“Although my title is changing, I will remain engaged with external partners and continue to be involved in VinFast’s fundraising efforts. I am eager to engage in further discussions with investors as we execute our ambitious development strategy. Additionally, as Chairman of the Board of Directors, I will prioritize fulfilling VinFast’s mission and upholding high governance standards,” added Thuy.
As CEO and Managing Director of VinFast, Pham Nhat Vuong will have direct oversight of operations, including global production, sales, and market strategy. The Board of Directors believes that Pham Nhat Vuong is the ideal candidate for the global CEO role at VinFast due to his invaluable experience gained from founding and developing VinFast. Pham Nhat Vuong also holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors at Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest conglomerate, with leading businesses in various industries such as industry, technology, real estate, and services.
Pham Nhat Vuong, who previously served as Chairman of VinFast’s Board of Directors since March 2022, became the first Vietnamese billionaire to be listed on Forbes’ list of world billionaires in 2013. He currently chairs Vingroup, VinFast’s parent company.
Le Thi Thu Thuy, now Chairman of VinFast’s Board of Directors, has been the Chief Executive Officer and Global CEO since March 2022. She joined Vingroup in 2008 as Chief Financial Officer and later assumed the roles of Vingroup and VinSmart CEO. She stepped down from these positions in 2014 and 2021, respectively. Since VinFast’s establishment in 2017, she has served as Chairman of VinFast and Deputy Chairman of Vingroup.
Lan Anh, assuming the role of Chief Financial Officer, joined Vingroup in 2020. With in-depth knowledge of the company’s operations, including production and supply chain, she previously held positions such as Deputy Chief Financial & Operations Officer and CFO of VinES Energy Solutions, Vingroup’s battery manufacturing company. She is also a long-standing Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a Member of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants (CPA).
