The McLaren Elva is a unique and special creation by UK sports car manufacturer McLaren Automotive. Originally, they had planned to produce 399 units worldwide. However, due to the design without a windshield, the McLaren Elva couldn’t be sold in important markets like China, the US, and some other countries. As a result, the company reduced the number of cars to 299 units. Eventually, the McLaren Elva edition was further reduced to only 149 units.
By introducing the McLaren Elva with a windshield, McLaren was able to capture more orders. Among them is Minh “Nhua,” who also owns one. However, the version with a windshield was considered to have compromised the beauty, aggressiveness, and exclusivity of the McLaren Elva from the very beginning. That’s why many customers opt for the windshield-less version, where the windshield feature is removed.
Recently, the McLaren Elva supercar made an appearance on the streets of Australia, leaving everyone in awe with its stunning and captivating emerald green color. Moreover, it belongs to the XP version. Since it doesn’t have a windshield, it is equipped with the smart Active Air Management System (AAMS) in the front of the driver and on the hood. This system can create an “air bubble” to protect the driver. However, at high speeds, this feature does not benefit the person inside. In fact, there is a video showing a wealthy driver losing his hat while accelerating the Elva on the road.
If you’re wondering whether Minh “Nhua”‘s McLaren Elva has this feature, the answer is no. Since his car has a windshield, equipping it with the Active Air Management System (AAMS) would be pointless, so the company omitted it.
In terms of power, the Elva doesn’t boast any outstanding features, as it still houses the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine found in other McLaren models such as the McLaren 720S, McLaren 720S Spider, and the hypercar McLaren Senna owned by Hoang Kim Khanh or Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu.
The difference lies in the fact that this powertrain delivers a maximum power output of 804 horsepower and a peak torque of 800 Nm to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Thanks to this configuration, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds.
