SUV Segment Sales in December 2023
During December 2023, the D-segment SUV market in Vietnam witnessed significant growth with several models. Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport stood out as examples of this growth. However, some models experienced a decline in sales, such as Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Fortuner.

Ford Everest: 1,484 units
In November 2023, Ford Everest fell behind its rival Hyundai Santa Fe in terms of sales. However, in December, Ford Everest regained its momentum and rose to the number 1 position in the segment with sales of 1,484 units, showing a remarkable growth of 41.4%.
The American SUV has been the leader in the segment with a total of 9,960 units sold in 2023. It experienced a sales increase of 42.7% compared to 2022, which is a significant achievement considering the challenging economic situation and the absence of a 50% discount on registration fees provided by the government. With these impressive results, the Ford Everest now stands as the second best-selling Ford model in Vietnam, just behind the Ranger.
Hyundai Santa Fe: 890 units
In contrast to the Ford Everest, Hyundai Santa Fe experienced a decline in sales by 16.3% to 890 units. As a result, the South Korean model dropped to the second position in the D-segment SUV market.
It is not surprising that Hyundai Santa Fe sold fewer units in December, considering the price increase ranging from 1,029 to 1,369 million VND.
Mazda CX-8: 347 units
In December 2023, the Mazda CX-8 became the third best-selling D-segment SUV with 347 units sold, showing a notable increase of 24.3%. This is unusual as the Toyota Fortuner typically holds this position. The cumulative sales of the Japanese model reached 3,024 units in 2023, which indicates a decrease of 21.1% compared to 2022.
Toyota Fortuner: 209 units
In December 2023, Toyota Fortuner experienced a decline in sales by 28.6% to 209 units, dropping to the fourth position in the segment.
In the entire year of 2023, Toyota sold 3,492 units of the Fortuner in Vietnam, which indicates a 54.3% decrease compared to 2022. This is not surprising as the Fortuner did not receive significant updates in terms of design or features since before 2024. Additionally, its pricing is not as attractive, ranging from 1,026 to 1,47 billion VND for 7 different variants.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport: 177 units
Among the D-segment SUVs, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport achieved the highest growth rate in December 2023, selling 177 units and showing an impressive increase of 168.1%. As a result, it rose to the fifth position in the segment, surpassing the Kia Sorento.
Kia Sorento: 148 units
Contrary to its sibling, the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Kia Sorento experienced a growth of 35.7% with 148 units sold. However, it still lags behind in terms of sales volume.
Isuzu MU-X: 42 units
Once again, the Isuzu MU-X occupies the last position in the D-segment SUV market in terms of sales, with only 42 units sold in December 2023. However, it achieved an impressive growth rate of 121%. The MU-X stands out in terms of growth rate in the segment.
