A third-party test conducted by an independent examiner revealed that the actual driving range of the Tesla Cybertruck only reached 409km, which is significantly lower than the company’s advertised figure of 511km.

As per the manufacturer’s announcement, the Tesla Cybertruck was expected to achieve a driving range of approximately 511 km on a full charge (according to EPA estimates). This is a fairly decent range for an electric vehicle with its large dimension and low aerodynamics.

However, the third-party test displayed that the actual driving range of the Cybertruck was only 409 km, which is considerably lower than Tesla’s claim. It is important to note that various test conditions can result in significant differences in the operating range of an electric vehicle.

The test was conducted using the Dual Motor Founders Series Cybertruck, equipped with 20-inch wheels and 35-inch off-road tires. The experiment took place early in the morning on a highway to minimize the impact of traffic on the results. The driver began with a fully charged battery pack and continued driving until the Cybertruck’s charge level reached 0%, rendering it immobile. Afterward, the test participants had to tow the truck to the nearest charging station for recharging before returning home.

It is important to mention that this test was not conducted in optimal conditions for the Cybertruck. Firstly, the temperature during the test was a mere 7°C. Secondly, most of the test was conducted at speeds averaging around 112 km/h. Lastly, the experiment took place in Texas at a relatively low altitude. Variances in average speeds, altitudes, and temperatures can yield significantly different results.

Moreover, using all-season tires would likely enhance the operating range of the Cybertruck. However, it is worth mentioning that the model with all-season tires reportedly offers a driving range of up to 547 km. Overall, this is slightly underwhelming for a pickup truck model that already faced some production issues.
