According to the sales results announced by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) and TC Motor, 2023 ended with a general decline in sales due to the impact of the economic recession. The list of the top 10 best-selling car models in the market still includes familiar names, but most of them have experienced a decrease in sales compared to 2022.

The top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam in 2023.

Mitsubishi Xpander became the best-selling car in the entire market for the first time since its introduction to Vietnamese customers in 2018. The sales of this popular MPV decreased by 10% compared to 2022.

Toyota Vios, which was the best-selling product in 2022, lost its position to competitors in 2023. Despite being upgraded with a new version and price reductions, Vios sales still decreased by 42.5% in 2023, losing its leading position in the overall market and in the B-segment sedan segment.

Instead, Hyundai Accent has taken the top spot in the B-segment sedan segment and is ranked second on the list of the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam in 2023, despite a total sales decrease of 23% compared to 2022.

Ranking third is the Mazda CX-5 with a sales growth of 32% in 2023. This success comes from the mid-life facelift version launched in early July 2023, which added features and reduced the price by 90 million VND. Since then, CX-5 has experienced 2 price increases but remains the most attractive in the C-SUV segment (ranging from 759-999 million VND).

In addition to the CX-5, 2 other models on the list have recorded growth in sales in 2023, including the Kia Sonet and Ford Everest (20% and 49% respectively). Both products entered the top 10 for the first time, not appearing on the list in 2022, and both leading their respective segments.

The fourth position belongs to the Ford Ranger. Compared to 2022, Ranger sales decreased slightly by 362 units, continuing to dominate the pickup truck segment. The seventh position belongs to the Hyundai Creta, although its sales decreased by 11% in 2023. At the same time, this model surpassed the Toyota Corolla Cross for the first time and became the best-selling B-segment urban SUV.

Due to not receiving the 50% registration fee reduction in the second half of 2023 like domestically assembled products and facing pressure from the price reduction of the Mazda CX-5, the sales of the Toyota Corolla Cross decreased by 51% in 2023. This model only ranked 8th in the top 10.

At the bottom of the list is the Honda City. This is one of the models with the highest sales decline among the top 10 best-selling cars in 2023. Specifically, the City sold a total of 9,894 units, a decrease of 32% compared to 2022. This result is still influenced by the large promotional programs of the manufacturer and dealers.
