Volkswagen has announced its plan to integrate the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT into their in-car entertainment system. The goal is to optimize the voice assistant system and enhance the interaction between the driver and the vehicle.
The new language assistant, called Cerence Chat Pro, has been developed by Volkswagen in cooperation with technology company Cerence Inc. It will be introduced at the CES 2024 exhibition in Las Vegas from January 9-12 and will be implemented in cars produced from Q2 2024 for the European market.
The first Volkswagen models to be equipped with Cerence Chat Pro include ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, Passat, Tiguan, and Golf upgraded versions.
With the integration of ChatGPT, the voice assistant in Volkswagen cars will be able to quickly recognize and respond to various driver requests, such as adjusting the temperature in the car or providing directions to the nearest restaurant.
In terms of security, VW ensures that Cerence Chat Pro will not have access to vehicle data. Additionally, command, question, and answer content will be immediately erased to ensure the highest level of information security for customers.
Since its widespread use last year, ChatGPT has quickly caught the attention of automakers. Mercedes-Benz also announced plans in June to use ChatGPT in their vehicles to enhance the functionality of their voice assistants, although they are currently still in the testing phase.
