The recently new BYD pickup truck

Recently, the brand-new BYD pickup truck was unexpectedly caught while undergoing road testing.

According to the plan, the Chinese automaker will introduce this pickup model next month. The vehicle will be available at dealerships in Australia by the end of 2024.

From the leaked images, the pickup truck has a muscular and imposing appearance, sharing many similarities with the Ford Ranger and F-150 Lightning. This is evident through the distinctive C-shaped LED headlights and the prominent BYD lettering on the grille, which is now covered up.

The BYD electric pickup truck is designed to meet daily commuting and off-road travel needs. Therefore, it has a large ground clearance and massive tires for convenient off-roading and conquering steep terrains.

Regarding the interior, leaked images show that the vehicle is equipped with a touchscreen display measuring approximately 15 inches and a digital instrument cluster in front of the driver. As the screen is placed close to the steering wheel, it is highly likely to have a vertical screen rotation feature.

The dashboard area of the pickup truck does not have many physical buttons, as most functions are likely to be operated on the screen. It is also expected to come with a heads-up display (HUD) using augmented reality (AR) technology developed in partnership with Huawei.

According to various sources, the new BYD pickup truck will be offered in both pure electric and PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) versions. The PHEV version will be launched first, while customers interested in the pure electric version will have to wait until 2025 for its availability.

Currently, there is limited information about the powertrain, but some sources suggest that the plug-in hybrid variant will be equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine paired with two electric motors, producing a total output of 489 horsepower, which is significantly more powerful than the Ford Ranger Raptor (405 horsepower).

Reports from China indicate that the PHEV variants will have an operating range of 800 – 1,200 kilometers.

Currently, customers can start placing deposits for the PHEV version, and the first vehicles are expected to be delivered to customers in the second half of the year. It is projected that the new pickup truck will have a price below $100,000 Australian dollars (approximately 1.6 billion Vietnamese dong).
