HiPhi Z is the only one out of the 23 electric car models tested that had a operating range impacted by less than 10% in cold weather conditions.
Extreme cold or hot temperatures can significantly decrease the operating range of electric vehicles. To demonstrate the performance of electric cars under the influence of freezing conditions, Motor magazine collaborated with the Norwegian Automobile Federation (NAF) to carry out real-world driving range tests of 23 electric cars in temperatures ranging from -10 to -2 degrees Celsius.
Of these, the electric vehicle with the most practical operating range close to the WLTP standard is the HiPhi Z by Human Horizons. It covered a distance of 522km after a full charge in the test, meaning a decrease of only 6% in extremely cold weather. This is also the least affected model by cold temperatures.
Similar tests were conducted for 22 other electric car models, yielding different results. The BMW i5 had a decrease of 12% from 505 km to 443.6 km. The Ford F-150 Lightning decreased by around 21%, from 429 km to 337.5 km.
The two models most affected by cold temperatures were the Toyota bZ4X (31.8% decrease) and the Volkswagen ID.7 (31.9% decrease).
To explain the superior stability of the HiPhi Z, Human Horizons stated that this electric coupe is equipped with the “Efficient Thermal Management System” developed in-house. This system combines the HVAC heat pump with intelligent E-Powertrain thermal management to maintain the battery’s optimal operating time for as long as possible.
Mark Stanton, Technical Director of Human Horizons, said, “Relentless innovation and unique technological development are the focus of the company, and we are proud of the performance of the HiPhi Z.”
Human Horizons is an electric vehicle startup based in Shanghai, founded in 2017. The brand’s vehicles are positioned in the luxury segment and compete with rivals thanks to their technological advantages. In addition to the HiPhi Z, the company also produces the HiPhi X and HiPhi Y crossover models.
