Ford plans to start production of its electric Explorer (EV) models in June 2024, with the first vehicles expected to be delivered to customers around August.

In March 2023, Ford introduced the electric SUV model Explorer. This is also the first vehicle of the American automaker to utilize Volkswagen Group’s MEB architecture as part of the collaboration between Ford and VW.

The Ford Explorer EV will be available in two versions: Explorer and Explorer Premium. However, the exact specifications of the vehicle have not been disclosed by the American automaker.

In terms of design, the Ford Explorer EV appears more solid than the ID.4, with more straight lines, a square and muscular body.

The prominent design details on the electric SUV include a closed grille like a “shield”, daytime running lights intertwined with the Explorer lettering surrounding the shield, a U-shaped protective plate, and vertical taillights reminiscent of the conventional Explorer model.

Inside the cabin of the Ford Explorer EV, there is a modern design with the main highlight being the 15-inch vertically mounted Ford Sync Move touchscreen that can be smoothly raised or lowered at a 30-degree angle.

The vehicle also features a 5-inch digital display that shows driving data, battery status, and the status of various automated driving features. In addition, the Ford Explorer EV is equipped with a convenient haptic touchpad located just below the center screen to control features such as audio volume or driving assistance technologies.

The standard convenience features equipped on the Ford Explorer EV include: keyless entry, dual-zone air conditioning, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 10-color interior ambient lighting, and more.

In terms of safety equipment, this electric SUV will be equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 cameras, and 3 radar devices that can monitor the surroundings of the vehicle in 360 degrees to activate a range of driver assistance systems. At present, Ford has not released detailed specifications for the electric Explorer.

According to numerous rumors, the vehicle will have 3 engine options. The first is a single motor with a power output of 168 horsepower and a range of 351 km. The second is a single motor with a power output of 228 horsepower and a range of 539 km. Finally, there is a dual motor with a power output of 335 horsepower and a range of 491 km.

The starting price of the vehicle is expected to be below $50,000 (equivalent to 1.22 billion VND).

In late 2023, the Ford Explorer EV was spotted on the streets of Vietnam. However, the vehicle had European license plates, so it is likely that it was brought to Vietnam temporarily for photography and advertising purposes.
