Recently, Carscoop reported that the fire at General Motors’ (GM) Factory Zero electric car manufacturing plant in mid-December 2023 caused up to $1 million in damages.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a forklift puncturing a container containing electric vehicle batteries.
The large fire required 100 firefighters and two specialized vehicles to take 7 hours to control.
Following the incident, Dennis Hunter, the head of the Detroit Fire Department, worked with local agencies to establish a better response plan for fire incidents.
In fact, fires caused by electric vehicle batteries are often difficult to extinguish and require significant resources to handle.
In the event of a fire, GM prioritizes the safety of its employees. They will immediately call the local fire department for immediate assistance, regardless of the severity of the incident.
Previously, on October 25, 2023, GM’s Factory Zero plant also experienced a fire incident, but it was not too serious. The fire was immediately extinguished thanks to the firefighting system at the production facility.
