According to Korean media, by the end of January 2024, Kia Sorento achieved sales of 9,284 units, surpassing Hyundai Santa Fe with 8,016 units sold. Another surprising fact is that the sales of Kia Carnival in January 2024 were also impressive with 7,049 units delivered to customers in South Korea. Hyundai’s 5th generation Santa Fe completed its fourth consecutive month of full product sales and is still competing for the leading position in the Korean market with Kia Sorento.

Kia Sorento continues to lead the South Korean automotive market in January 2024.

Previously, in December 2023, Kia Sorento sold 8,068 units, followed by Hyundai Santa Fe with 7,682 units.

Hyundai Motor launched the 5th generation Santa Fe in August 2023 and initially sold this SUV model in the domestic market with gasoline engine variants. In the first two months of the new Santa Fe’s launch, the hybrid version was still not available, making the new generation model not truly create a “fever”.

Can Santa Fe surpass Sorento in February 2024?

However, starting from October 2023, the new generation Santa Fe was supplemented with a Hybrid variant, significantly boosting sales of this model in South Korea. Specifically, the number of new generation Santa Fe’s sold in October reached 7,946 units, an increase of 3,617 units compared to the previous month of September. Among them, 4,669 units were hybrid models, accounting for 58.7%.

Kia also launched an upgraded version of the 4th generation Sorento in August 2023 and began selling it extensively. Kia Sorento is a highly popular SUV and has been the best-selling model in South Korea for the past 3 consecutive years.

In October, the new Sorento still topped the domestic sales with 8,777 units sold, but decreased by more than 1,400 units compared to September. Among them, the hybrid version accounted for 65.9% reaching 5,786 units.

Hopefully, the new versions of these two models will also be brought to the Vietnamese market soon.
