At the recent CES exhibition, the Chief Technical Officer of Mercedes-Benz confirmed that the new G-Class Mini will be fully electric.

Prior to that, at the Munich 2023 exhibition held in early September 2023, Mercedes-Benz shared its plan to expand its iconic G-Class lineup with a smaller model.

This series is expected to use the name G-Class with the “g” in lowercase to emphasize the difference from the original larger G-Class.

In terms of design, Mercedes-Benz G-Class Mini will definitely retain much of the original boxy frame. To ensure good off-road capability, it will have high ground clearance and many off-road features. The smaller size means that the vehicle will have better accessibility, maneuverability, and departure compared to the original.

The Chief Technical Officer of Mercedes-Benz also revealed that the G-Class Mini will not use the Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, similar to the concept CLA introduced by Mercedes in September 2023.

The vehicle will share the same platform with Mercedes’ large rear-wheel drive models, optimizing the off-road capability.

The vehicle may use a different platform but share some similarities with the recently introduced EQG electric model. The EQG is also Mercedes’ best off-road model, even more powerful than the gasoline G-Class.

Information about battery size, motor configuration, and capacity is currently kept confidential by the company.

CLA Concept Electric Vehicle

According to some sources, Mercedes-Benz G-Class Mini is likely to use electric powertrains with a range of up to 400km, similar to the upcoming commercial CLA model.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class Mini is expected to be launched in 2026, with production scheduled for the end of 2026 at the Hungary factory. The price of this version is estimated to be only about one-third of the “full-size” model, starting at around $55,000.
