Mitsubishi recently unveiled a poster on their fan page announcing the launch of two models, the Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV.
According to the announcement, on February 1, 2024, the Japanese automaker will officially introduce hybrid versions of the Xpander and Xpander Cross in the Southeast Asian market.
Prior to this, in July 2023, Mitsubishi had also teased information about the Xpander HEV. The camouflaged image of the car revealed the LED positioning lights and LED headlights, similar to the current petrol variant.
Currently, detailed information about the Mitsubishi Xpander HEV 2024 has not been disclosed.
However, it is known that the hybrid version of the Xpander will still be equipped with a 1.5L MIVEC 4-cylinder petrol engine, producing a maximum power of 105 horsepower and a maximum torque of 141 Nm.
This engine will be combined with an electric motor. The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross in the Thai market currently uses a CVT transmission, so it is likely that it will retain this transmission. Meanwhile, the Mitsubishi Xpander/Xpander Cross sold in the Vietnamese market is equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Apart from the engine changes, it is highly likely that the exterior and interior of the Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV will remain the same as the standard version.
The interior of the car still features a variety of convenient amenities such as an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 6-speaker audio system, automatic air conditioning, an air filter, wireless phone charging, a cruise control system, electric parking brake, and temporary brake hold.
After Thailand, it is possible that the Mitsubishi Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV will continue to be introduced in other markets, including Vietnam.
The addition of this fuel-efficient variant is sure to boost sales for the Mitsubishi Xpander and maintain its reign as the “king.”
