Recently, the police from the states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut in the United States have launched a crackdown on license plate tampering to evade tolls and fees.
According to information from the authorities, there have been many cases where drivers have tampered with their license plates to avoid paying tolls, resulting in an estimated amount of over $100 million.
After initiating the campaign to handle cases of toll evasion, the governments of New York and New Jersey have discovered several violations. Among them, one individual had committed 292 infractions and evaded paying a toll of $5,167 and additional fees of $14,600 per instance. Subsequently, this person was required to pay a total fine of nearly $20,000.
This person evaded tolls by using a license plate cover. When passing through the toll booth at the George Washington Bridge, the license plate on their vehicle suddenly disappeared, prompting the police to request a stop and make an immediate arrest.
