The Peugeot 5008 will feature design elements inspired by its sibling model, the 3008, with 3-bar LED headlights and the distinctive Peugeot grille. The longer body of the car, with its extended roof towards the rear, gives it a square and sleek tail end with claw-shaped LED taillights. The Peugeot 5008 is expected to have a length of over 4,700 mm, surpassing the 4,641 mm of its predecessor and competing with mid-size SUV rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq.
The extended dimensions will provide more interior space and increased storage capacity in the trunk. Similar to the current model, Peugeot will offer both 5- and 7-seater versions to cater to larger families. Additionally, the dashboard is expected to be shared with the E-3008, featuring a panoramic curved 21-inch i-Cockpit screen, a compact steering wheel, and premium materials. The same applies to the safety equipment, including the latest ADAS technology from the Stellantis parts bin.
The all-new Peugeot E-3008 introduces the STLA Medium architecture, which will serve as the basis for many next-generation models from the Stellantis brands. The Peugeot 5008 is expected to utilize an extended version of this platform, leveraging advanced technology and compatibility with various powertrains. Reports suggest that the new Peugeot 5008 will be available in both fully electric and hybrid versions.
Peugeot plans to offer two fully electric variants of the E-5008, one less than the E-3008. The base EV variant is expected to have a smaller 73 kWh battery pack combined with a single front-mounted electric motor producing 207 horsepower. Additionally, there will be a long-range variant, equipped with a larger 98 kWh battery pack and a more powerful electric motor producing 227 horsepower. If you’re curious about the AWD configuration with dual motors seen in the E-3008, it seems that the E-5008 won’t feature this option as the rear space will be occupied by the auxiliary motor.
The variant using the most budget-friendly ICE engine is expected to be equipped with a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system, delivering an impressive 134 horsepower. The power is transmitted to the front axle through a six-speed e-DCS6 automatic gearbox, combined with a 28 horsepower electric motor.
Finally, there are reports of a plug-in hybrid variant that will bridge the gap between the mild hybrid and full electric versions. This will be a first for the 5008, as the current generation has never inherited the PHEV powertrain from its mechanically-related SUVs.
In line with Peugeot’s marketing strategy, it would be no surprise if the automaker releases teaser footage a few months prior to the expected launch date of the 5008 in August 2024.
