Rolls-Royce has announced the recall of 107 Spectre electric vehicles due to a possible grounding cable issue. The car manufacturer is concerned that this issue could lead to poor cooling performance and pose a safety risk.
Rolls-Royce has discovered a potential issue during the pre-delivery inspection of the vehicles in December 2023. At that time, a worker noticed residue on the coolant connection hole. When this issue was reported, company management immediately initiated an internal investigation. Over the next few weeks, Rolls-Royce decided to halt all deliveries of the Spectre vehicles from January 11, 2024, and recall the models that have already been sold to customers.
According to Rolls-Royce, excess residue may be present on the grounding cable attached to the front electric motor. In some cases, this issue could cause electrical leakage and potentially injure technicians performing vehicle diagnostics. In the worst-case scenario, this fault could even lead to a widespread vehicle fire. However, Rolls-Royce emphasizes that this is an extremely rare occurrence and the company has not received any reports of injuries related to this issue.
Rolls-Royce has stated that approximately 90% of the total of 107 recalled vehicles will be affected by this issue. The company will notify affected owners starting from March 15th to bring their vehicles to authorized dealerships. At the dealership, technicians will inspect the electric motor coolant lines and remove any residue if necessary.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre was recently introduced to the Vietnamese market with a price tag of nearly 18 billion VND. Currently, the company’s representative in Vietnam has not provided a response regarding this issue.
