Rolls-Royce recently introduced 4 special edition cars to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2024, the Year of the Wood Dragon.
This collection includes one Cullinan and three Phantom Extended models with distinctive features that capture the festive atmosphere and Eastern culture. Each car is adorned with hand-painted vibrant red dragon motifs on both sides. The dragon is not only the representative emblem for the year 2024 according to Eastern culture, but also symbolizes authority, power, and prosperity. In addition, the color red symbolizes luck, which is commonly used to decorate houses during the Lunar New Year in China, Vietnam, and some other Asian countries.
An interesting detail is that all the dragons face the right side, which represents the east – the direction of the rising sun. According to belief, this symbolizes survival, hope, prosperity, and progress.
Inside the cabin, the dashboard features a 3D dragon motif hand-painted by Rolls-Royce artisans. The company stated that this pattern creates a vibrant 3D effect and is achieved using four different shades of red paint, which took over 2 weeks to complete. Beneath it, the soft wave details are made from carbon material, representing dynamism and flexibility.
Furthermore, dragon icons are also embroidered on the headrests. This detail is meticulously crafted with 5,449 stitches and took 20 hours of work. The “Starlight Headliner” of the roof is also designed to resemble a dragon shape, created using 677 fiber optic strands, together with 667 additional fiber optic lamps that simulate a starry night sky. It took three months to complete this unique headliner, with over 20 hours just for the installation of the lights.
Out of the 4 Rolls-Royce cars, three of them are equipped with picnic tables in the rear, finished in black piano color and adorned with circular zodiac sign patterns made of stainless steel. The names of the 12 zodiac signs are carved in calligraphy, with the image of a prominent golden dragon. The fourth car has a simpler design with a black piano veneer and only one dragon inlay made of stainless steel.
12 years ago, Rolls-Royce also introduced the Year of the Dragon edition Phantom to celebrate the Lunar Year 2012, with only 33 units produced, including 2 cars belonging to Vietnamese tycoons. It is currently unknown if any of the 4 Rolls-Royce Wood Dragon edition cars will find their way to the hands of Vietnamese billionaires.
