Despite a series of recent scandals, Toyota still records record-breaking revenue.

The attractiveness of combustion engine cars and the diversity of hybrid vehicles has significantly contributed to the increase in Toyota’s sales and profits.

During the period from April to December 2023, the Japanese automaker reported a net profit of 3.94 trillion yen (646.7 trillion VND), up 107.9% compared to the same period last year.

During this period, Toyota’s operating profit was 4.24 trillion yen (699.56 trillion VND), a 102.1% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Revenue reached 34 trillion yen (5.6 million trillion VND), up 23.9%.

Toyota also adjusted its annual net profit forecast to 4.5 trillion yen (742.6 trillion VND), an 83.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

Recently, scandals related to its subsidiary Daihatsu have disrupted the delivery of vehicles, causing the Japanese automaker to revise its projected sales for the fiscal year 2024 to 9.5 million vehicles, 150,000 vehicles less than previously estimated.

In 2023, Toyota sold a total of 7.3 million vehicles worldwide, a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. Notably, one-third of these sales were hybrid vehicles, an increase of 37.9% compared to 2022.

The sales of pure electric vehicles also quadrupled compared to the previous year.

Most of Toyota’s vehicles sold in all regions saw an increase in sales. Sales in the Japanese, North American, and European regions grew by approximately 16%. Meanwhile, sales in the Asian region, excluding Japan, increased by 6% compared to 2022.
