Yesterday, on January 26, 2024, on the homepage, Toyota Vietnam announced the reselling of the Avanza Premio manual transmission variant. Toyota Vietnam has stated that the company will resume delivering Avanza Premio MT vehicles to dealerships starting January 26, 2024 after receiving instructions from the Toyota Corporation and reporting to the management authorities. The Avanza Premio MT model has been confirmed to meet safety and environmental standards by an independent certification agency overseas.
Prior to that, on December 20, 2023, in Japan, Daihatsu Motor Company held a press conference to announce irregularities in the company’s vehicle certification procedures. According to the investigation conducted by the third-party independent committee and the official announcement from Toyota Global, Vietnam had one affected model, the Avanza Premio MT.
Specifically, there was an inappropriate modification on the Toyota Avanza Premio MT during the emission and fuel consumption testing overseas. According to Toyota Vietnam, this modification does not affect the safety and quality of the vehicles. In addition, these vehicles comply with the testing regulations and have been certified to meet Vietnamese standards. Therefore, customers can confidently use the vehicles.
Toyota Vietnam temporarily suspended the delivery of Avanza Premio MT vehicles to dealerships on December 21, 2023, to await instructions from the Toyota Corporation, as the certification of these vehicles overseas is being examined by independent testing and certification agencies. After receiving instructions from the Toyota Corporation and reporting to the management authorities in Vietnam, the company has resumed delivering the Avanza Premio MT vehicles to dealerships starting January 26, 2024.
Not long ago, on January 19, 2024, Toyota Vietnam officially announced the implementation of a recall program for the Avanza Premio models to tighten the front shock absorber bolts and replace the dust cover for the front strut mounts. The program will be officially carried out by Toyota Vietnam starting from January 19, 2024, at all dealerships nationwide.
Specifically, 3,514 Toyota Avanza vehicles are subject to recall to tighten the front shock absorber bolts. These vehicles were manufactured from January 6, 2022, to October 26, 2022.
According to Toyota Vietnam, the front shock absorbers of the affected vehicles use bolts to attach them to the vehicle. Due to a design issue, the tightening force of the shock absorber bolts may be insufficient. During the use of the vehicles, the shock absorber bolts may become loose, causing abnormal noises. In the worst case, the shock absorber bolts may fall out, leading to instability during vehicle operation.
Customers with affected vehicles will receive notifications from Toyota dealerships inviting them to have their vehicles inspected. Based on the inspection results, the vehicles will undergo tightening of the shock absorber bolts. The estimated time for inspection and repair/replacement is about 0.5 to 2.5 hours per vehicle.
Meanwhile, the number of Toyota Avanza vehicles subject to recall for the replacement of the dust cover for the front strut mounts is 710. These vehicles were manufactured from September 12, 2022, to October 26, 2022.
Toyota Vietnam stated that the dust cover is fitted to the front strut mounts to prevent dust and water from entering. During the assembly of the front strut assembly, the installation tools may come into contact with the dust cover, causing damage to the cover. If water enters the dust cover and causes leakage, the front struts may corrode prematurely.
Customers with affected vehicles will receive notifications from Toyota dealerships inviting them to have their vehicles inspected. Based on the inspection results, the vehicles will undergo replacement of the dust cover for the front strut mounts/front strut assembly. The estimated time for inspection and repair/replacement is about 1.3 to 2.4 hours per vehicle.
