According to the chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, electric vehicles will only represent 30% of the market share. The remaining share will be dominated by hybrid cars, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and internal combustion engine vehicles.
Mr. Akio Toyoda believes that more than a billion people worldwide currently live in areas with electricity shortages. This poses a significant challenge for this population to have access to electric cars.
In addition, not everyone has a necessity to use electric cars. Government support alone is not enough to encourage people to adopt electric cars. Therefore, vehicles with internal combustion engines will continue to be sustainable and challenging to be phased out.
Toyota predicts that in the future, electric vehicles will account for 75% of new car sales.
Despite Toyota’s apparent lack of interest in electric vehicles, the company has plans to sell 1.5 million electric cars per year by 2026 and 3.5 million cars by 2030.
