Recently, Mr. Bob Azzam, Deputy Chairman of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), denied the information that the company will add hybrid engine options to another model besides the Yaris Cross.
He stated that everything depends on market developments as well as the overall economic development.
If the economic and political situation is stable and purchasing power increases, the company may consider adding. In the case of economic fluctuations affecting consumer demand, the business policy of the company will also change to keep up with the market.
Since Toyota introduced the B-segment SUV Yaris Cross, there have been many reports that the Japanese automaker will add hybrid engines to some “affordable” models such as Raize, Avanza, Veloz Cross…
At present, the hybrid version of Toyota Yaris Cross accounts for 75% of Toyota’s global total sales. This number was 63% in 2023.
According to the plan, after selling the remaining petrol models, Toyota will only deliver the hybrid version.
Mr. Azzam said that if the company launches additional hybrid versions for some “affordable” models, the prices will depend on the government’s policies. For example, hybrid cars in Thailand could be more affordable thanks to the country’s incentives and support.
