On 06/02/2024, VinFast Manufacturing and Trading Joint Stock Company announced the recall of 5,912 VF 5 Plus vehicles produced by VinFast from March 2023 to December 2023 to replace the combination switch (left-hand stalk on the steering wheel).

Through regular product testing and analysis, VinFast has discovered that the front lighting of some VF 5 Plus vehicles may turn off if the driver forcefully operates the combination switch (left-hand stalk) to activate the left turn signal, leading to a temporary reduction in visibility. The phenomenon only occurs when the vehicle is operating at speeds of 50-55 km/h during nighttime and the lights are set to AUTO mode (automatically turns on when it gets dark). Once the driver turns off the left turn signal, the front lighting resumes normal operation. This phenomenon does not occur when the lights are in normal mode without using the AUTO mode.

After coordinating with relevant parties for thorough investigation and testing, VinFast has identified the cause of the issue as a design flaw in the control circuit board from the component supplier. Specifically, the combination switch contains a control circuit board with a shorter contact point area in AUTO mode compared to other positions. During usage, the contact pins are prone to shift outward, resulting in signal loss and the temporary turning off of the front lighting. The solution for rectification is for the supplier to produce a new combination switch with a control circuit board featuring a proper contact surface to replace it free of charge for customers.

As of now, VinFast has recorded one case where a vehicle sold in the market experienced this issue, but no accidents have been reported. To ensure the highest safety for customers and comply with strict quality control procedures, VinFast has decided to recall the entire 5,912 VF 5 Plus vehicles manufactured and sold in Vietnam from March 2023 to December 2023 to inspect and replace the combination switch (left-hand stalk) free of charge.

Currently, VinFast has reported the information and obtained approval for the recall plan for VF 5 Plus vehicles from the Vietnam Register. Starting from February 19, 2024, customers can bring their vehicles to VinFast showrooms and service centers nationwide for a thorough inspection and free replacement of the combination switch (left-hand stalk).

VinFast will directly notify each affected owner to make appropriate arrangements for their vehicle inspections. Information about the program will also be publicly posted on VinFast’s website and other public media outlets.

The estimated time for inspection and replacement of the component is approximately 40 minutes. During the wait for the new switch, VinFast recommends customers to avoid using the AUTO mode for the lights and instead manually turn on the lights to avoid the mentioned issue.
