Volvo EX30 has now arrived in the Southeast Asian region, specifically in Thailand, and it is expected that this all-electric SUV model will come to Vietnam by the end of this year.
At the Singapore Auto Show 2024, Volvo introduced the EX30 all-electric SUV model. Here, the Swedish automaker only showcased an EX30 Ultra Single Motor Extended version, estimated to cost around 185,000 SGD (~3.4 billion VND) with COE. Meanwhile, in the Thai market, the 2024 Volvo EX30 is distributed with 3 versions: Core Single Motor Extended Range, Ultra Single Motor Extended Range, and Ultra Twin Motor Performance.
Volvo Vietnam has announced plans to introduce an electric vehicle to the domestic market by the end of 2024, and many people predict that it could likely be this EX30 SUV model.
The Volvo EX30 is currently the smallest model in Volvo’s range of products. Specifically, the dimensions of this electric SUV are quite modest. The length, width, and height of the vehicle are 4,223 x 1,837 x 1,555 mm, and the wheelbase is 2,650 mm. These measurements are similar to the “made in Vietnam” electric model – VF e34.
In terms of design, the 2024 Volvo EX30 still carries the “shadow” of its predecessor, the EX90, with the distinctive Thor’s Hammer positioning LED headlights and “L-shaped” taillights. While the body shape and door structure are similar to the XC40, the roofline leans more towards the rear.
Entering the cabin, the 2024 Volvo EX30 welcomes users with a minimalist interior space. The car does not have an instrument cluster behind the steering wheel or buttons on the door. The position of the instrument panel is replaced by a sensor box that monitors the driver’s condition, such as the eyes, blinking, head movements to assess and provide alerts. If the driver wants to monitor the speed, gear position, etc., they will need to look at the upper part of the entertainment screen.
On all three variants, the car will be equipped with a 2-tier storage compartment in the central area. If users do not need to store a cup, they can slide and hide it into the armrest, while expanding the storage space for the lower tier. This area also includes buttons to open/close the front windows and lock/unlock the car. The “Rear” button adjusts the two windows of the rear seats.
Furthermore, the power-adjustable seat buttons on the 2024 Volvo EX30 are also minimalistic. To adjust the backrest incline, the occupant needs to rotate the knob clockwise or counterclockwise. Sliding the seat up/down will push it in the horizontal direction. To adjust the seat height, the occupant needs to press the middle button to switch modes, then continue to rotate the knob clockwise or counterclockwise.
Notably, each variant of the 2024 Volvo EX30 will have different equipment. The standard version of the 2024 Volvo EX30 includes LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, single-zone automatic air conditioning, manually adjustable front seats, a 12.3-inch touchscreen center display, an infotainment system based on the Android Automotive operating system, and wireless Apple CarPlay support.
For the Ultra Single Motor Extended Range and Ultra Twin Motor Performance versions, the Volvo EX30 is equipped with 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, power trunk lid, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, interior ambient lighting, Harman Kardon sound system, 360-degree camera, front collision warning, and lane departure warning.
In terms of powertrain, the 2024 Volvo EX30 uses a nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack with an available capacity of 69 kWh. The battery charging time with an 11 kW AC slow charger is 7.5 hours. If using a 153 kW fast charger, the charging time from 10% to 80% battery is 26.5 minutes.
For the Volvo EX30 Ultra Single Motor Extended Range and Core Single Motor Extended Range, the car uses a single powerful electric motor with 268 horsepower and 343 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 180 km/h. The range after a full charge for these two variants is 480 km.
Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line Volvo EX30 2024 Ultra Twin Motor Performance is equipped with an NMC battery pack connected to 2 electric motors for a total power output of 422 horsepower and all-wheel drive. This powertrain allows the EX30 to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds.
