Although the Vietnamese car market has been warming up in the past few months, it cannot be denied that 2023 is a difficult time for the majority of sellers when the supply and demand balance has a large gap. Since the beginning of this year, most car models have had to reduce prices by tens to hundreds of million VND to attract customers.
In the fourth quarter, large promotional programs continue to be implemented by dealers and sellers to clear out the inventory and prepare for the new batch of cars in 2024. Some popular names like Ford Ranger, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Toyota Raize are also experiencing price reductions, but the sales volume has not necessarily increased.
However, some newly launched car models at the end of the year unexpectedly face supply shortages, leading to a situation of “salad with beer”.
Toyota Innova Cross sold with accessories, Honda CR-V Hybrid faces shortage
Toyota Innova Cross had already received deposits from dealers since April with an expected price of around 1 billion VND for the hybrid version. By the end of the third quarter, the official launch of the car model had prices ranging from 810-990 million VND. However, customers were not able to celebrate the lower than expected listed prices as they were informed of the price difference fee to receive the car early.
Sharing with Tri thuc – Znews, a consulting staff member from a Toyota dealer in Hanoi said that the gasoline version of Innova 2023 is available at the dealer and is being gradually delivered to pre-booked customers. However, the hybrid variant is still not available to provide all customers. This person also suggested buying an additional accessory package worth 30 million VND to help the store arrange for earlier car delivery.
“The Hybrid version is imported, so the dealer cannot proactively control the quantity. Customers who want to receive the car early can purchase the accessory package to receive it before January”, this staff member added.
When contacting another dealer in Ho Chi Minh City, a consulting staff member also shared that the Hybrid variant is not available yet, so customers who place orders have to sign a commitment paper and cannot determine the exact delivery time.

The Honda CR-V 2024 has also just been launched at the Vietnamese market at the end of the year. In contrast to the current generation that has seen a series of price reductions from dealers to stimulate buying demand, the Hybrid version of CR-V 2024 is facing a shortage from its first few months.
Since the beginning of the third quarter, some dealers have quickly “suggested” that buyers pay an additional fee of 50 million VND to receive the car early. In December, the “salad” fee has decreased to only 20-40 million VND for the white and red colors.
In an exchange with reporters, an employee at a Honda dealer said that one reason causing the shortage of the CR-V 2024 Hybrid e:HEV RS version is that this car model is a completely imported vehicle from Thailand, which requires a longer assembly time. However, this person also predicted that the price of the CR-V would gradually stabilize from the beginning of next year.
“Currently, the dealer does not have the white and red Hybrid versions available, so customers who want them will have to wait more than 1 month for the imported cars to arrive. For these two colors, buyers also have to pay more than 5 million VND, excluding additional fees, compared to the black Hybrid version”, this staff member said.
Hyundai Palisade follows Santa Fe, a price difference of several tens of million VND
In addition to the 2 Hybrid variants of the Honda CR-V and Toyota Innova Cross, the Hyundai Palisade is also facing a “salad with beer” situation. In September and October, customers who wanted to buy a Palisade and receive the car at the end of the year had to pay an additional fee of 70-80 million VND for earlier car delivery arrangement.
By the beginning of November, when some versions had arrived at the dealers, the “salad” fee had decreased to only 20-30 million VND. According to the observation of the reporter, Hyundai Palisade is now available at some dealers, however, the quantity is limited and only includes the basic white and black colors.

Thương Bùi (Ho Chi Minh City), a consulting staff member at a Hyundai dealer, said that the store only has a few Palisade Exclusive and Prestige models in white. If customers want to order new colors such as emerald green and blue, they will have to wait for a few more weeks and accept the price difference fee.
“The store only has a limited number of white cars. Therefore, customers who want to order the green color will have to wait longer, about 3-4 weeks. However, to receive the car earlier, customers can buy an additional accessory package from the dealer to have it for the Lunar New Year”, this person shared.
Currently, the Hyundai Palisade is priced from 1,469 to 1,479 billion VND for the Exclusive version. The Prestige version is recommended by the manufacturer at prices ranging from 1,599 to 1,589 billion VND.
