Recently, a white Tesla Model S Plaid, with a sticker of “high voltage” (indicating the level of danger), was unexpectedly spotted leaving the Ferrari factory gate in Maranello, Italy.
This has raised many doubts as to whether the Italian supercar manufacturer is testing the Tesla Model S Plaid for research and development of electric vehicles.
In fact, it is not uncommon for a non-electric car manufacturer like Ferrari to test and drive a Tesla Model X Plaid. Lamborghini had previously tested and driven the Tesla Model X Plaid in 2023.
Ferrari’s electric car project is still in development. The company had initially planned to launch the car in 2023, but it has been delayed until 2025.
According to sources, Ferrari will develop and expand its factory to serve the production of new car models in the future. The factory will include a research and development center for electric vehicle batteries.
The new factory is expected to start operation in June 2024. If fully utilized, the production capacity will reach about 15,000 cars per year.
Currently, Ferrari has not revealed much information about the new electric vehicle model. However, as a manufacturer specialized in supercars, it is estimated that the new model will have a power output of up to 1,000 horsepower and use at least 2 electric motors, along with a new platform specifically designed for electric vehicles. The application of F1 technologies, especially battery technology, is also not ruled out.
