In the near future, the Vietnamese car market is expected to welcome more “rookies”. In addition to petrol and pure electric cars, there will be the presence of a series of hybrid models.

Below are some hybrid car models that could be introduced in Vietnam in 2024.

Toyota Corolla Cross 2024

According to the plan, the Toyota Corolla Cross 2024 will officially launch in Thailand on February 8. Currently, some dealers in Vietnam have announced that they are accepting deposits for this model with 2 premium petrol and hybrid versions, excluding the standard version. It is expected that the car will be launched in Vietnam in the second quarter.

However, Toyota Vietnam has not yet confirmed this information.

In this upgrade, the Toyota Corolla Cross retains the same exterior design, with some details fine-tuned.

The front of the car is impressive with a new headlight cluster and LED daytime running lights arranged in horizontal bars, integrated with turn signals. In addition, the car is also equipped with a new wheel design.

In terms of interior, the 2024 Corolla Cross is also upgraded with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster replacing the traditional analog gauge. The infotainment screen is 10.5 inches in size and supports wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. In addition, the car is also equipped with an electric parking brake with an auto hold function, USB-C charging port, and panoramic sunroof.

According to many sources, the new Corolla Cross will be equipped with a new 2.0L petrol engine similar to the one on the Camry, replacing the current 1.8L engine. The hybrid version is also likely to be fine-tuned for power and fuel efficiency.

Mitsubishi Xpander HEV/Xpander Cross HEV

On February 1, Mitsubishi officially introduced the all-new Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV models in the Thai market.

The Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV will be priced at 912,000 – 946,000 baht (equivalent to 626 – 650 million VND).

The Mitsubishi Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV are powered by a combination of a 1.6L MIVEC petrol engine with a maximum power of 95 horsepower, a maximum torque of 134 Nm, and an electric motor with a total output of 116 horsepower and a torque of 255 Nm.

The Xpander HEV is equipped with an 1.1 kWh battery pack, combined with an e-CVT automatic transmission and front-wheel drive for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds. The average fuel consumption is 5.2L/100km.

In this fuel-efficient version, the car will have 7 driving modes, including an EV Mode for fully electric driving.

In addition to changes in the engine, the exterior and interior of the Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV remain the same as the regular version. The only additional feature is the HEV logo on the front and rear of the car for identification.

In terms of interior, the Mitsubishi Xpander hybrid has some changes in equipment, such as a larger screen and a redesigned steering wheel.

Accompanying these changes are a range of utilities such as an 8-inch multi-information display, digital air conditioning control with Max Cool function, rear air vents and ceiling vents, one-touch power windows, a 4-way adjustable leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 9-inch touchscreen center display with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, a 6-speaker sound system, wireless phone charging, etc.

In terms of safety equipment, the Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV also have a range of driver assistance features similar to the regular version, such as ABS, EBD, BA, ASC, HSA, ESS, AYC, front airbags, a rearview camera, etc.

After Thailand, it is possible that the Mitsubishi Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV will continue to be introduced in other markets, including Vietnam.

Haval Jolion

According to information from sales consultants, after Tet holiday, Haval will continue to introduce a B-segment SUV called Jolion to users in Vietnam.

It is expected that the car will be available in two versions: petrol and hybrid. The price will be around 700 million VND.

Haval Jolion has dimensions of 4,472 x 1,841 x 1,574 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. These dimensions are slightly larger than those of its competitors in the same segment.

The car has a sporty and modern appearance. The front stands out with a large “falling star” grille, similar to its sibling Haval H6. On both sides of the grille are large LED headlights with 3 square lights arranged side by side, along with slim LED daytime running lights designed like the number 7.

The rear of the car features LED taillights with a design similar to the front, along with a shiny chrome rear bumper.

In addition, this B-segment SUV also comes with basic features such as wind splitters, brake lights, shark fin antenna, and automatic rear wipers.

Inside the cabin, the car shares many similarities with the Haval H6. It is equipped with various modern conveniences such as a 3-spoke steering wheel with integrated function buttons, a 7-inch electronic rearview mirror, a 12.3-inch center touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, independent dual-zone air conditioning with rear air vents, a 6-speaker sound system, a rotary gear shift, electric parking brake with auto hold, USB ports, and panoramic sunroof.

The car is powered by two engine options: petrol and hybrid.

The hybrid powertrain is a combination of a 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor. This engine produces a total output of 190 horsepower and a maximum torque of 375 Nm.

Combined with the engine is a front-wheel drive system and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The petrol engine option is a 1.5L turbocharged engine with a power output of 147 horsepower and a torque of 220 Nm, also paired with the same transmission.

It is not known what safety features the car will have when it arrives in Vietnam. In the Thai market, the Jolion comes with an advanced ADAS safety package, which includes lane keeping assist, emergency braking, blind spot warning, etc., along with a 360-degree camera, tire pressure sensors, front and rear collision sensors, and 6 airbags.
