At the end of this year, the prices of many car models in the market have significantly dropped due to the prolonged sluggish market since the beginning of the year. However, the tradition of “scarce supply near Tet” still persists in some newly launched models, mostly imported ones.

Hybrid “out of stock” cars are still unavailable

In the third quarter, Honda CR-V introduced its new car models in the Vietnamese market which attracted the attention of car enthusiasts. Among them, the Hybrid version is highly anticipated to create a breakthrough due to its relatively “affordable” price compared to other versions, as well as impressive technology and performance experiences.

However, as soon as the CR-V was launched, many dealers announced that they were out of stock, raising the “extra cost” for the Hybrid version. Specifically, customers were suggested to pay an additional amount of 10-50 million VND in order to receive the car earlier.

By the end of December, the “extra cost” has reduced to only a few million VND, but the possibility of having the car ready for the Lunar New Year is still uncertain. In an interview with Tri Thuc – Znews, Mr. Hoang Thien, an employee of a Honda dealer, confirmed that at this time, the scarcity is almost certain for any version of the CR-V Hybrid.

“If customers place a deposit for the new Honda CR-V Hybrid, they will have to sign a commitment to wait for the car and there will be no fixed delivery time. If they do not agree to wait, customers can choose other available versions in the warehouse with almost all colors,” Mr. Thien added.

The scarcity issue not only happens with the CR-V but also affects the availability of the Toyota Cross 2023 Hybrid version. According to Tri Thuc – Znews, many customers who ordered the Innova Cross 2023 Hybrid version had to wait even though the model had just been launched.

Tan Loc, an office worker in Ho Chi Minh City, stated that he and his family had discussed and decided to place a deposit for the Innova Cross 2023 Hybrid version in preparation for the new year. However, after researching the price, many dealers still couldn’t provide an accurate answer as to whether the car would be available before the Lunar New Year or not.

“I asked many dealers from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City, but most of them did not have the car in stock. If I want to buy, I have to wait until January or pay an additional ‘extra cost’ of 10-20 million VND. The staff said at this time, most dealers only collect orders and wait for the car to arrive, so scarce stock is inevitable,” Mr. Loc shared.

Quang Huy, a 31-year-old consultant at a Toyota dealership, confirmed that at this time, almost no dealer can guarantee the delivery time of the Innova Cross Hybrid or, if available, the price will be significantly increased.

“At this time, any staff member who has an Innova Hybrid to deliver before January will have a warm and cozy Lunar New Year. The cars have not arrived yet, and even the display cars are no longer available,” Mr. Huy commented.

Two months ago, TC Group also adjusted the prices for these two SUV models, but in the opposite direction – a decrease. In which, the Tucson was reduced by 76-191 million VND, and the Santa Fe decreased by 96-176 million VND. In addition, in December, Hyundai dealers almost eliminated all promotions for customers buying these two models.

Sharing with Tri Thuc – Znews, an employee of a Hyundai dealer mentioned that the Tucson inventory is almost sold out at the dealership, with only one 1.6 Turbo white version left. This is also the general situation of dealerships after a long period of stimulating demand promotions.
