This SUV takes design inspiration from McLaren’s supercars, especially the 750S, to create a competitor to the Ferrari Purosangue and Lamborghini Urus.
For many years, McLaren has firmly said “no” to launching a product similar to the Lamborghini Urus or Ferrari Purosangue, believing that SUVs are not in line with the brand’s philosophy. However, since former Ferrari Chief Technical Officer Michael Leiters became CEO of McLaren, the British sports car manufacturer has had a more open-minded view of the concept of a high-performance SUV.
In fact, Leiters has shown openness to the idea of a McLaren-branded SUV, but he also said that such a vehicle would not appear before 2028. McLaren is known for its supercars designed with bold, sleek, and sensual lines. So what would an SUV from McLaren look like? A new rendering by designer Sergiy Dvornytskyy provides a convincing answer for supercar enthusiasts.
The design of this McLaren SUV is inspired by the 750S model, featuring curved LED headlights and a low-placed grille. Two large air vents are connected to the daytime running lights, creating a highlight for this super SUV. Additionally, the car is painted in a striking orange color, combined with a black roof and pillars. At the rear, the SUV features a long LED taillight strip that runs across the tailgate, combined with a black rear bumper with air vents. Overall, compared to McLaren’s supercars and hypercars, the design of this SUV is impressive but still relatively “subtle” and more like a luxury vehicle than a direct competitor to the Lamborghini Urus.
Dvornytskyy expects that the McLaren SUV will be equipped with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine similar to the 750S, combined with a front-wheel-drive system. In the McLaren 750S, this engine block produces 740 horsepower and 590 Nm of torque.
