The Volvo EM90 2024 is called the “twin” of the Zeekr 009 by enthusiasts as these two models share the same chassis.
The Volvo EM90 is a product developed by the Swedish car manufacturer and its parent company Geely (China), thus this MPV model shares many similarities with the Zeekr 009.
Recently, Volvo has officially released photos of the EM90 before the car’s official debut in China, and this model has started receiving orders in the market.
In terms of design, Volvo EM90 still possesses details that carry the DNA of the Swedish brand, such as the T-shaped taillights or the LED “Thor’s Hammer” daytime running lights.
The front grille area of the EM90 is equipped with a matrix-shaped positioning light system, combined with illuminating Volvo logo. The wheels have an aerodynamic design and come in 19 or 20-inch sizes.
The dimensions of the car are 5,209 x 2,024 x 1,867 (mm) in length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 3,205 mm and a weight of up to 2,763 kg. These measurements of the Volvo EM90 are equivalent to the Kia Carnival, Toyota Sienna, or Honda Odyssey.
Entering the cabin, the EM90 has a three-row interior, with a seating configuration of 2-2-2. The second row of seats integrates many features such as power adjustment, reclining, heating, and cooling. Volvo also provides a folding table, footrest, and a 15.6-inch entertainment screen hanging on the ceiling to serve passengers in this position. Volvo stated that the rear seats can be transformed into a “cinema, meeting room, or bedroom” with just a press of a switch or voice command to change window settings, seat positions, screens, lighting, and air conditioning.
The driver’s compartment is designed in a minimalist yet sleek and modern style. The dashboard stands out with a tablet-style 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with very few physical buttons. This design style is in line with the aesthetic preferences of Chinese customers. The car is also equipped with a 2,460W Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 21 speakers, promising to provide an experience that Volvo describes as “like a mobile concert hall”.
The Volvo EM90 is only equipped with a 268 horsepower electric motor in the rear axle, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. Accompanying the engine is a 116 kWh CATL battery pack, providing a range of up to 738 km, according to China’s Light Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). The EM90 supports fast DC charging, increasing the capacity from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes. In addition, the car also has a bidirectional charging feature to provide power to other devices in certain necessary cases.
In terms of safety, EM90 is equipped with a comprehensive advanced driver assistance system using sensors including high-resolution cameras, surround view cameras, millimeter wave radars, and ultrasonic radars.
