In August 2023, Toyota officially unveiled the new generation of the Land Cruiser Prado. During this event, Toyota intentionally revealed images of 2 mysterious SUV models, which are believed to be new members of the Land Cruiser lineup. Among the 2 vehicles, there is a small rugged SUV known as the “little Toyota Land Cruiser”.
According to the latest information from Japanese media, the “Toyota Land Cruiser mini” will be called the Land Cruiser FJ. This name has been trademarked in Japan since November 2023. It is also reminiscent of the discontinued Toyota FJ Cruiser which ceased production in 2017.

It seems that the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will be the commercial version of the Compact Cruiser EV concept car introduced in 2021. It is a product of the Toyota ED2 team from the Toyota Design Center Europe in Nice, France. The Toyota Compact Cruiser EV itself also adopts a design style similar to the FJ Cruiser.
Toyota Compact Cruiser EV
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will be the smallest member of the Land Cruiser family. It is based on the TNGA-F platform, and the “little Toyota Land Cruiser” is expected to have a length of about 4,390 mm and a width of 1,840 mm. If so, the vehicle will be positioned between the Toyota Yaris Cross and Corolla Cross. Thanks to the GA-F platform, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ promises good off-road capabilities to compete with the Suzuki Jimny.
The exterior design of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is expected to combine elements from the Compact Cruiser EV and the new generation Land Cruiser Prado. The vehicle will feature a boxy overall design with flared fenders and robust pillars, similar to other members of the Toyota Land Cruiser lineup. Additionally, the vehicle may be equipped with both rectangular and round headlights, like the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250.
The “heart” of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ could be a 2.8L turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine or a 2.7L inline 4-cylinder petrol engine. Additionally, this small SUV may also have a pure electric version with 2 electric motors and a range of 500 km after a full charge.
The global launch of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will take place at the earliest this year. According to rumors, the starting price for the petrol version in the Japanese market will be 3.6 million yen (approximately 587 million VND).
According to some sources, Toyota’s new SUV will focus on markets such as Southeast Asia, Japan, Africa, and South America. With the Land Cruiser brand, this vehicle is expected to make a splash.
