According to The Japan Times, Daihatsu has resumed its delivery operations in the Indonesian market, just 2 days after its subsidiary of the Toyota group halted the entire process of transporting new vehicles in Japan and internationally due to the safety cheating scandal.

As previously reported, Daihatsu has acknowledged falsifying safety and emissions tests on multiple Daihatsu and Toyota models in the international market, along with some Mazda and Subaru models specifically for the domestic market.

However, according to the latest information, Daihatsu has announced that the Indonesian government has confirmed the safety of its vehicles as well as the models produced by its local partner under the Toyota brand. Therefore, the archipelago country has decided to greenlight Daihatsu to resume the transportation of new car orders.

According to The Japan Times, Indonesia is the first country to confirm the safety of Daihatsu vehicles after the exposed safety cheating scandal. The company specializing in compact cars under the Toyota group also sells its products in many other foreign markets such as Southeast Asia or Central and South America.

Quoting a Daihatsu representative, The Japan Times affirmed that the company will continue negotiations with regulatory agencies in other Asian countries to resume car export operations.

Meanwhile, in the Japanese market, Daihatsu is expected to temporarily suspend production activities at all of its domestic plants starting from December 26. According to an unverified source from Nikkei, the suspension of production at Daihatsu plants in Japan may last until the end of January 2024.

After Nikkei published the above information, a Daihatsu spokesperson stated that the company is still conducting internal discussions regarding this issue.

An independent committee set up by Daihatsu has confirmed that the number of affected vehicles in the cheating tests has increased to 64 models, including 11 models that were sold to customers in Japan.

Meanwhile, in Vietnam, one day after the Toyota group announced information about Daihatsu’s safety cheating tests, Toyota Vietnam (TMV) issued official information regarding the incident, stating that one affected model is the Avanza Premio with a manual transmission (MT).

Regarding other models related to Daihatsu distributed in Vietnam, TMV stated that it proactively suspended transportation for all related batches of vehicles from Daihatsu to dealerships on the afternoon of December 20 to provide additional information for the Vietnamese market.

After detailed research, TMV confirmed that the mentioned models, other than Avanza Premio MT, are not related to the incident. Specifically, TMV stated that these mentioned models comply with testing regulations and are certified to meet Vietnamese standards.

Regarding the handling of the affected model, Avanza Premio MT, TMV announced that it will stop selling this small MPV model until further information is available.

Regarding the handling of the related models that have already been sold to customers, TMV believes that there are no issues related to the quality or safety of the vehicles. All vehicles currently on the road can be used without any concerns.
