After its launch, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will directly compete with small-sized off-road SUVs like the Suzuki Jimny and Ford Bronco Sport.
At the launch event of the Land Cruiser Prado in August 2023, Toyota revealed plans to introduce a smaller Land Cruiser model positioned below the current two versions. This model is likely to be called the Land Cruiser FJ. According to information from the Japanese press, the name Land Cruiser FJ was registered exclusively by the company in November 2023.
The name Land Cruiser FJ also recalls the FJ Cruiser – an off-road SUV model that has recently been discontinued. This explains why these two models have a considerable resemblance in terms of design, even though the “mini” Land Cruiser is much smaller than the FJ Cruiser.
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is the commercial version of the Compact Cruiser EV concept model introduced by the company in 2021. The vehicle is developed based on Toyota’s TNGA-F platform, with dimensions of approximately 4,390mm in length and 1,840mm in width. Therefore, the Land Cruiser FJ has similar dimensions to the Toyota Yaris Cross and will be a direct competitor to the Suzuki Jimny and Ford Bronco Sport.
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ can be equipped with a 2.8L turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine or a 2.7L inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine. In addition, there will also be a pure electric version of the vehicle with a range of approximately 500km when fully charged.
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ could be launched later this year. According to Japan’s Best Car Web magazine, the starting price for this SUV model could be around 3.6 million Yen, equivalent to 587 million VND based on the current exchange rate. The Land Cruiser FJ will be available in Japan and some markets in Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America.
