In early February 2024, the upgraded version of the Toyota Hilux 2024 was launched in the Australian market with a series of upgrades, notably equipped with a new mild hybrid system.
Shortly after its debut in the Australian market, the Toyota Hilux facelift quickly arrived in the ASEAN region. Surprisingly, this time Indonesia was the first market in Southeast Asia to receive the upgraded version of the Toyota Hilux, even before the Thai market, which has a strong preference for pickup trucks.
In Indonesia, the Toyota Hilux facelift is equipped with a new honeycomb grille design with prominent “HILUX” lettering. Along with a bolder front bumper, the Hilux V and G variants for Indonesia feature LED headlights. In addition, the rest of the exterior design remains similar to the previous version.
However, unlike the Hilux for the Australian market, which is equipped with a 2.8L diesel engine with 48V mild-hybrid technology, the version for the Indonesian market has not been electrified. The car is still equipped with a smaller 2GD-FTV engine, delivering a maximum power of 150 PS and a peak torque of 400 Nm. Additionally, the car is equipped with 4-wheel drive and a rear differential lock but lacks the Multi-Terrain Select system.
With the Toyota Hilux 2024 facelift landing in the ASEAN market, there is a high possibility that the car will soon be brought to Vietnam. However, for the mild-hybrid powertrain, we may have to wait until March 2024 to see if Toyota will launch a hybrid version of the Hilux at the Bangkok International Auto Show 2024.
