In an interview with Tuoi Tre on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, a representative of Honda revealed some information about the new lineup of products that will be launched in the Vietnamese market this year. Mr. Koji Sugita, General Director of Honda Vietnam, said: “We have plans to introduce a new HEV car model and several new large-displacement models that were also launched at the EICMA exhibition to Vietnamese customers.”

Currently, Mr. Sugita has not revealed the specific identity of the new hybrid car model that will be launched in Vietnam this year. However, there are 4 “candidates” for this position, including Honda HR-V, City, Civic, and Accord. In markets outside Vietnam such as Thailand, all four models have hybrid versions (e:HEV).

The first one is the Honda HR-V e:HEV with a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.5L Atkinson Cycle 4-cylinder gasoline engine, 2 electric motors, and an E-CVT transmission, producing a total output of 131 horsepower and a maximum torque of 252 Nm. In addition, this B-segment SUV also uses a lithium-ion battery that can be automatically charged while the car is running. The average fuel consumption of the Honda HR-V e:HEV is 25.6 km/L (about 3.9 L/100 km).

The above-mentioned e:HEV powertrain has 3 main modes, including EV, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive. In addition, the car also has 3 driving modes: Econ, Normal, and Sport.

Meanwhile, the Honda City e:HEV uses a 1.5L Atkinson Cycle 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a maximum power of 98 horsepower at 5,600 – 6,400 rpm and a maximum torque of 127 Nm at 4,500 – 5,000 rpm. This engine is combined with 2 strong electric motors with 109 horsepower and 253 Nm as well as an e-CVT transmission.

Next is the Honda Civic e:HEV with a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0L Atkinson Cycle 4-cylinder gasoline engine, direct fuel injection, and 2 front-mounted electric motors. In addition, the car also has an E-CVT automatic transmission and a lithium-ion battery pack located under the rear seats.

Honda Civic e:HEV is currently also sold in Thailand

The gasoline engine of the Honda Civic e:HEV has a maximum power of 141 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 182 Nm at 4,500 rpm. When combined with the electric motor, the engine produces a total output of 184 horsepower and a maximum torque of 315 Nm. The car has 3 familiar driving modes: ECON, Normal, and Sport.

Especially, the Honda Civic e:HEV has a relatively low fuel consumption, specifically 55.55 km/L (1.8 L/100 km) in urban areas, 18.86 km/L (5.3 L/100 km) outside urban areas, and 25 km/L (4 L/100 km) combined.

Finally, the Honda Accord e:HEV comes with a 2.0L Atkinson Cycle 4-cylinder inline gasoline engine, producing a maximum power of 146 horsepower and a maximum torque of 182 Nm. The gasoline engine acts as the main generator while the e-CVT transmission integrates an electric motor to charge the lithium-ion battery pack. This battery pack provides power to the second electric motor with 181 horsepower and 335 Nm. The gasoline engine can directly drive the wheels through a higher-speed lock-up clutch. In total, the Honda Accord e:HEV has a power output of 204 horsepower.

In addition to fuel-efficient powertrains, the 4 hybrid models from Honda do not differ in terms of design or equipment from their regular gasoline versions. Mr. Sugita said that the HEV lineup from Honda is receiving a lot of attention not only for its 30% fuel efficiency compared to the gasoline version but also for its superior acceleration and exciting driving experience.

Thus, this year, Honda will sell 2 hybrid models in the Vietnamese market, including the CR-V e:HEV RS. The new hybrid model from Honda in Vietnam may also be imported as a complete vehicle from Thailand, just like the CR-V e:HEV RS.

In Thailand, the Honda HR-V e:HEV currently has prices ranging from 979,000 – 1,179,000 Baht (about 666 – 802 million VND). The corresponding figures for the Honda City e:HEV are 769,000 – 839,000 Baht (about 523 – 570 million VND). Meanwhile, the Honda Civic e:HEV is priced from 1,129 – 1,259 million Baht (about 768 – 856 million VND). The most expensive one is the Honda Accord e:HEV with prices ranging from 1,529 – 1,799 million Baht (about 1,039 – 1,223 billion VND).
