The International Indonesia Motor Show (IIMS) 2024 is currently taking place in the archipelago country, featuring a range of new electric cars, one of which is the Hyundai Kona Electric. When it is sold in the Indonesian market, this Korean electric car will be a formidable competitor to the VinFast VF6.

Currently, the specifications and pricing of the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric for the Indonesian market have not been disclosed. It is only known that this will be one of six new Hyundai models introduced in the archipelago country this year.

At IIMS 2024, we have introduced the all-new Kona Electric. The latest Hyundai model in the small electric SUV segment will have an affordable price,” said Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, CEO of Hyundai Indonesia, at the event.

The new generation Hyundai Kona Electric was first unveiled in the South Korean market in December 2022. In the new generation, the car has dimensions of 4,355 x 1,825 x 1,550 mm and a wheelbase of 2,660 mm. Thus, this car has similar dimensions to the VinFast VF6 electric car except for a shorter wheelbase by 70 mm.

Compared to the gasoline and hybrid versions of the new generation Hyundai Kona series, this electric SUV has some exterior details that are different, such as a closed grille, integrated charging port, front and rear bumpers, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, it has two light strips with pixel-like designs on the front and rear of the car.

Inside the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric, the interior space is similar to the regular version. The car is also equipped with a curved screen, combining a digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen in the center. Behind the steering wheel is a new electronic shifter, while the central control panel features a rotary dial mode selector.

In addition, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric features the next-generation ccNC infotainment system, which supports features specifically designed for electric cars, such as optimizing the interior lighting system, heating/cooling the battery, temperature control to save energy, and setting the route for the car.

Furthermore, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric has a 12-inch head-up display, Bose sound system, software updates over WiFi, automatic toll payment, an integrated charging port with lights and anti-freeze capabilities down to -30°C.

The biggest difference of the Kona Electric compared to the other versions of the new Hyundai Kona series is obviously the powertrain. The car is equipped with an electric motor with a maximum output of about 204 horsepower. Moreover, it features a 64.8 kWh battery pack, providing a range of about 410 km.

Lastly, it offers features such as highway driving assist, adaptive cruise control, regenerative braking, and the i-Pedal mode that uses only the accelerator pedal to increase/decrease speed.

The presence of the Kona Electric will enhance the Hyundai brand’s presence in the electric car segment in the Indonesian market. Previously, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car had made waves in this market despite its non-low price.
