Just a few months after Tesla started delivering its all-electric pickup truck Cybertruck to customers, quality issues have begun to arise.
On the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, an owner shared that the stainless steel Cybertruck might still rust.
Specifically, a user named Raxar posted a complaint that the Tesla Cybertruck had small rust spots just 2 days after purchase. “I picked up the car in Dublin, California on February 8, it was raining heavily. After that I drove to Sacramento and noticed several small orange rust spots”, Raxar wrote. “The rust spots are not large, they are very small, but noticeable. I admit that I haven’t washed the car, but it has only been raining for two days”.
Raxar’s post quickly caught the attention of many. Some speculated that it might not be rust, but rather dirt from the factory or during transportation.
In the comments section of the post, another user also mentioned their Tesla Cybertruck experienced rust after being exposed to rain in Los Angeles.
“They acknowledged the corrosion issue and said they will contact me next month when the tool arrives and they can perform the repair service,” the user wrote after notifying Tesla’s service center about the car’s condition. The user also added that the Cybertruck had only been driven for 612 km.
In fact, the vehicle’s user manual warns drivers that the Cybertruck’s stainless steel body can still experience corrosion in certain conditions.
To prevent damage, Tesla advises owners to immediately remove contaminants like grease, bird droppings, tree sap, bug remains, tar, road salt, etc. from the vehicle’s body. Additionally, the user manual states that Cybertruck owners should clean the stains “with water and mild soap, not abrasive cleaners” to ensure the anti-corrosion paint layer is not compromised.
While no car is completely corrosion-proof, having an expensive vehicle develop rust immediately after purchase is understandably difficult to accept. In colder climates, this issue may be even more severe due to the impact of road salt.
