The size of the Hyundai Kona Electric is comparable to the VinFast VF 6 electric model, but it has a shorter wheelbase. When it hits the market, the electric model from the Korean brand promises to outshine the VF 6.

At the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2024 currently taking place in the archipelago country, Hyundai has unveiled the 2024 Kona Electric.

Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, the Operations Director of Hyundai Indonesia, shared at the event: “At IIMS 2024, we have introduced the all-new Kona Electric. The latest Hyundai electric SUV in the compact segment will be more affordable.”

Prior to its debut at the local market in December 2022, the Hyundai Kona Electric was launched in its home country. However, information about the technical specifications and prices of the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric in Indonesia has yet to be disclosed.

In terms of dimensions, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric has a length of 4,355 mm, a width of 1,825 mm, and a height of 1,550 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,660 mm. These figures are similar to the VinFast VF 6, but the wheelbase is 70 mm shorter.

In terms of design, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric features several details that differentiate it from internal combustion engine variants, especially in the front area. Specifically, the 2024 Kona Electric is equipped with a closed grille with an integrated charging port. The front of the car also features LED headlights with pixelated square-shaped design (known as Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp) instead of a continuous line like the regular version. The upper grille of this variant is made lower. The rear bumper, 19-inch wheels, and taillights are all designed with the Parametric Pixel theme, as Hyundai calls it.

Inside the cabin, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric maintains the same modern and digitized design as the regular version. The car is equipped with a curved display combining a digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen. The electronic gear shift lever is now placed behind the steering wheel for a cleaner look. The drive mode selector knob is located on the central control panel.

The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric is equipped with the next-generation ccNC infotainment system, which supports features specifically designed for electric cars such as optimizing interior lighting, heating/cooling the battery, regulating the temperature to save energy, and planning routes for the vehicle.

Some other notable features on this electric vehicle include a 12-inch head-up display, Bose sound system, over-the-air software updates via WiFi, automatic toll payment, integrated charging port with lights, and anti-freeze function for winter.

Thanks to the increased wheelbase of 60mm, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric provides a more spacious and comfortable interior. For example, the rear seats have an additional 77mm of legroom and there is more headroom by 11mm. When the second-row seats are folded flat, the storage space behind the vehicle increases to 723 liters. The smart power tailgate can be customized to increase convenience. In other words, users can choose different settings for the height and speed of opening the tailgate from the central control screen.

Powering the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric is an electric motor with a maximum power of about 204 horsepower. In addition, the car is equipped with a 64.8 kWh battery pack, providing a range of approximately 410 km.

In terms of safety, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric features advanced features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Safe Exit Warning (SEW), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW) with Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), High Beam Assist (HBA). Additionally, the car is equipped with Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Lane Following Assist (LFA), and Highway Driving Assist (HAD), Surround View Monitor (SVM), among others.
