Kia, the South Korean automaker, is preparing for a notable debut in the small SUV segment. The upcoming model, codenamed AY and expected to be named Clavis, has been spotted undergoing testing and has garnered significant attention from car enthusiasts.

The new Kia Clavis is positioned between the Sonet and Seltos models. In its latest sighting, the Clavis revealed its LED daytime running lights both at the front and rear.

This compact Kia SUV stands out with its distinctive boxy shape, accompanied by modern features such as a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, flush-fitting door handles, and eye-catching dual-tone alloy wheels measuring 17 inches.

The front grille adds to the distinctive design of the Kia Clavis, while the black roof rails, A-pillars, and faux skid plate enhance the SUV’s appeal.

The rear of the vehicle features vertically arranged LED taillights, which contribute to its modern and stylish aesthetic. Both the front and rear also have vertical LED strips that serve as turn signals.

Previously leaked prototype images also provide a glimpse of the Clavis’ interior, which appears to be upscale and technologically advanced. This compact SUV is expected to feature ventilated front seats, two-tone leather upholstery, and an advanced infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster.

Additional features include wireless phone connectivity, a foldable center armrest, rear-seat air vents, and USB charging ports.

Safety is a top priority for the Kia Clavis, with a 360-degree camera, 12 sensors, 6 airbags, 4-wheel disc brakes, and Level 1 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The Clavis SUV is expected to be available with both internal combustion and electric powertrains. While specific details about the electric variants have not been disclosed, it is likely that the range will be between 350 km and 400 km.

For the internal combustion versions, it is highly probable that the Clavis will receive a turbocharged 1.0L gasoline engine, delivering a maximum power of 120 PS and a peak torque of 172 Nm. Transmission options are expected to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Similar to the Sonet, the Clavis will feature a front-wheel-drive configuration.

With the increasing demand for small and compact SUVs worldwide, it is very likely that Kia’s new model will also be offered in emerging markets outside of India.
