New images of the upcoming BYD pickup truck have just been captured, this version is only covered with a simple black tape on some external parts. As the recent patent images showed, the vehicle has a design that strongly resembles the Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Ranger.
Unlike its main rival Tesla, which decided to depart from traditional design rules with the Cybertruck, BYD has adopted a more conventional design for its entry into the pickup truck world. These photos show that the front section of the truck includes a flat silver-white hood, a black plastic front bumper, and headlights that look very similar to the Ford Ranger’s design. In the middle is an LED light bar with large horizontal bars, but covered with tape.
The side details of the BYD pickup are designed to be square, with a roof rack, large side mirrors, and steps for easier access. The rear portion features a large sporty bar, and the taillights are designed to be simple.
The interior cabin of the truck is unlike any other model on the market, with a digital instrument cluster in front of the driver accompanied by a large infotainment screen. The vehicle features a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a large gear lever placed between two large door handles. Additionally, the air conditioning vents are red, there is a large storage compartment in the front, multiple physical switches, and two wireless charging trays.
Car News China reports that both plug-in hybrid and electric versions will be produced. The PHEV version is expected to have a turbocharged 1.5L engine combined with two electric motors, producing approximately 490 horsepower.
