“This move highlights VinFast’s commitment to enter the highly potential electric vehicle market of Indonesia and foster partnerships for a sustainable future of transportation in the region,” stated Indonesian magazine DapurPacu. Tribun Otomotif, also from Indonesia, believes that VinFast’s commitment was clearly demonstrated in the launch of its first-ever electric steering models to the international market. During IIMS 2024, the Vietnamese automaker will showcase a range of electric vehicles that cater to different segments, meeting the mobility and financial needs of various customer groups, in order to bring green transportation closer to everyone.

VinFast models attracted the attention of numerous visitors at the IIMS 2024 exhibition.

“Indonesia lags behind Vietnam in the electric vehicle race”

Indonesian newspaper Media Indonesia quoted Mr. Yannes Martinus Pasaribu, an automobile expert at the Bandung Institute of Technology, as saying that the popularity of electric vehicles in Vietnam is superior to that in Indonesia. “This is due to the proactive policies of the Vietnamese government and the pioneering electric vehicle brand VinFast,” he stated. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s electric vehicle ecosystem is still in its early stages, with limited infrastructure and charging stations, and the government’s incentives have yet to be fully optimized. “Vietnam can achieve this due to the positive efforts of the Vietnamese government and VinFast in the electric vehicle industry,” added Mr. Yannes.

VinFast’s investment is driving the dreams of electrifying the transportation system of the most populous country in Southeast Asia.

Southeast Asia

VinFast has not only made its mark in Vietnam but has also stepped onto the global stage. “VinFast’s footprint continues to expand worldwide over the past two years, from the US and Canada to Europe, with a groundbreaking IPO last year,” said Indonesian magazine Otomotif1. “In January of this year, the Vietnamese carmaker announced a substantial investment in Indonesia, including $200 million to build an electric vehicle manufacturing plant, with the determination to expand its market share in Southeast Asia and penetrate the highly potential electric vehicle market of Indonesia,” the magazine added.

Abundant natural resources, the government’s commitment to promoting the electric vehicle industry, and a population of over 250 million with a rapidly developing domestic market are Indonesia’s advantages in the global electric vehicle market. According to ASEN Briefing, Indonesia is the world’s leading exporter of nickel, accounting for 22% of global reserves.

The international media believes that Jakarta is eager to attract companies like VinFast in hopes of utilizing its abundant natural resources to become a global hub for electric vehicle supplies. On the other hand, the Vietnamese automaker is in a favorable position to meet the increasing demand for green transportation and advance the electric mobility dream of the most populous country in Southeast Asia.

VinFast: Shaping the future of transportation in Southeast Asia

“VinFast’s electric mobility vision springs from its state-of-the-art automotive manufacturing complex, with advanced scale in Haiphong, Vietnam, where automation reaches up to 90%,” wrote Otomotif1. As VinFast’s electric vehicle ecosystem extends beyond national borders, its production hub in Haiphong will serve as a model for the company’s supply chain expansion plans. VinFast’s factory in Indonesia is expected to have a production capacity of up to 50,000 vehicles per year.

According to Indonesian media, VinFast is leading the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia and the region.

Thus, Indonesia not only represents a significant market but also becomes a crucial link in VinFast’s global electric vehicle supply chain. “When the demand for environmentally friendly transportation increases, VinFast’s entry into the Indonesian market will contribute to the electric vehicle supply in this country,” commented Motor Mouth, an automotive newspaper. However, promoting the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia is only part of the picture. Local media suggests that Vietnamese brands are contributing to sustainable transportation with a commitment to creating an environmentally-friendly supply chain at every stage.

According to Motor Mouth, VinFast is leading the automotive industry towards sustainability and innovation by building environmentally-friendly production facilities. “Investing in the Indonesian electric vehicle industry not only supports the local economy by providing employment opportunities, but also promotes the electric vehicle revolution and contributes to a greener, cleaner future,” the newspaper affirmed.

“By venturing into the burgeoning yet potentially strong electric vehicle industry of Indonesia, VinFast is striving to enhance its position in shaping the future of transportation in Southeast Asia and beyond,” concluded Motor Mouth.
